That's too bad, he sounds self-pitying. I didn't like him because of his backstory though, I liked his singing.

Ha! Cale tweeted that Jim Ranger (the pastor with three kids) used to play with them and that he's from Little Rock. Sorry Cale, didn't really like him.

I was talking about the Glambert clone, lol!

Oops! Now the clone I thought was serious. LOL

I thought it was a Canadian custom: birthday plaid. You think I'm kidding but unfortunately I'm serious.

LMAO.. *snort*

Chris Golightly. I think I only liked him because of his name which is kinda cool.

I usually don't really like Katy Perry, I find her kind of annoying but I have to say her pissing off Kara really made me like her a lot. :) So come back anytime Katy Perry. I also loved how she called bull**** on the lifetime movie backstory. Totally agree.

ETA: (ooo.. Bull**** is another word that can't be spoken.. cool beans)

I got that. I was just saying that everything about him turned me off. I wouldn't have liked him either if he had no backstory.

We'll see, I might like him better later on in the competition. Or not.

ETA: Yeah, Katy pissing off Kara was priceless. Definitely worth it.

I suppose I should say nothing, but I really didn't like Katy Perry, even when (or maybe especially when) she was pissing off Kara. She actually reminded me of Adam, in that obnoxious, "I'll say anything, I don't need to be polite or consider people's feelings" way that I loathe. And I don't know why but I felt bad for Kara. I thought Katy was rude to her.

Yeah, you're right, Katy was kind of rude (to Kara), but Kara was pretty much asking for it. She's so annoying. I guess it's a girl thing! With the contestants though, I thought Katy was almost more respectful than Avril Lavigne. I just thought she spoke the truth about the sob story stuff. AI TPTB are obsessed with them and like Katy, I would soooo do without them.

Yeah, I actually think it's a girl thing vs. a guy thing, re perceptions. I thought she came across as a bitch. I had an instant dislike of her. As for being rude, I don't think it was merely to Kara. Didn't she make the "lifetime movie" remark right in front of the guy whose actual life was the subject of her remark? I don't think many people would have been that insensitive/obnoxious.

By the way, did you guys notice that Kara's remark about the backstory wasn't just arbitrary? She was saying it had a bearing on his sensitivity as a singer, or something, which I thought was within the realm of "ok" to say. It worked for me.

I don't like them bringing up the backstory as a selling point of the singer, but I can totally see how the backstory could create in a singer an empathy and feeling that would come through in their singing. So yes, I actually agreed with Kara about that.

Maybe I would've. I loved her line. Yes, Kara was talking about how he could be better singer because of his story, but I think she knows it's not only that. I don't want to have empathy for a singer on AI. I want to like their singing. I guess I'm kind of brutally honest too.

I agree, the backstory thing is awful. I suppose I have an interest in the backstories, though. I can't help it. They suck me in. But I just have an interest. I try not to let the backstories get to me emotionally. Or influence me about a singer's abilities.

I just remembered Katy Perry's tweets about how she loves Simon, and how he tells it like it is. Remember those?

You're better than me ross. I have no patience anymore with the backstories. It's so much that at one point, I became desensitized (can I say that?). I mean, lots of people have hard times in their lives, could I hear some singing now? I've got no more interest in the backstories. I'm a bitch probably, but hey, it's assumed.

I hear ya. And I'm not better than you. lol

I can totally understand how you feel.

It's a competitive reality show, though, not a concert, so you have backstories. AI is a cheesy reality show, always was, always will be. I just take the backstories as part of the make up of the show. The people who make the show try to involve the viewers with these tacky, oversimplified backstories. Not all the viewers are music lovers. Some watch for the drama. It is what it is.

Re-reading my post, comparing Katy to Adam. Usually he's polite and not obnoxious. I guess I should have said what reminded me of him was that way of being "outspoken". I don't know, it just comes across as immature, to me.

They'd better get to Hollywood week soon. When is it?

Isn't it funny how Paula just doesn't seem to be missed? I mean, I actually forget she was ever on the show, most of the time. I see very few "I miss Paula!" posts anywhere.

But I think the guest judge thing is keeping me at a distance from things. Not sure why. For one thing, I guess I can't really relax and settle in, with the cast changing every week. And even though I don't miss Paula, things seem a little off without her.

Yeah, I know they have to do it. If at least, they could tone it down a bit.

How soon before Ellen shows up? Is it Hollywood week?

Oh, no! Three more audition shows? You're kidding. Torture.

Yes, Ellen will be there in Hollywood.

I'm not kidding about the auditions. Dallas tomorrow, Denver next Tuesday and then a "best of" episode Wednesday next week.
