Canadian Idol Fans Watching American Idol

I don't know. I get your point, but I'm not sure enough people actually do it for it to have an impact. I mean, you know I'm a huge Idol fan, and I want to support them. But I won't support someone if I don't like their music.

I'm more like you. I know what you mean. But I'm thinking like this. Were all the people who bought Crush and pushed it to #1 David Archuleta fans? I mean, they were Idol fans, because no one else had ever heard of him except Idol fans, but if they all were Archuleta fans, then I'd have to conclude he had way, way more fans than Kris Allen has, coming off Idol. And how could he? I mean, seriously, could the runner up from last year, who didn't even get enough votes to win, have had so many more fans than the guy who won this year? This makes no sense to me. I can only conclude a lot more people besides his fans bought that single. Or else Kris has no fans.

Crush had a huge immediate success on the radio though. Immediate being the key word here.

I don't know. Some people actually forget about Idol when it's not on the air, unlike us! So some people may have voted for Kris but are not looking out for that stuff online. If they hear it on the radio, then they'll remember. Also, for example, Cook saw an increase of his CD sales when Idol started again last winter. "Oh, yeah, that guy won last year, I liked him. I'll check out his CD". Some people need a bit of a push to remember!

Also, remember that "What Not To Sing" editorial about how Kris may have won because of more casual votes, and not because of more "obsessive voters". Well, I think Archie may have had more of those obsessive fans (tweens and teens I guess) than Kris does. Honestly, I don't think any of that is that important right now. The important thing is that, slowly but surely, radio stations are adding the song. Which they are.

You're forgetting that David Cook was the underdog last year. And he won. So in effect David A. was the poor wronged soul who lost. (well, he was the beginning frontrunner anyway... David Cook did pull up ahead of him)

David A. never had the judges say to his face.. "Thanks for coming out" and David Cook had the public support and the media support. (well in MHO anyway) I think every case is different anyway. It's hard to compare. There also wasn't the itunes pass thing last year. I think a lot of people who bought that, expected the single to arrive with it (I did) and if it didn't well, then they'll wait a month or two and get it then.

I agree with this too. I think Kris has a lot of cross over appeal, but it's just getting the airplay to remind people how much they like him.

I mean we watched the whole season but I didn't actually remember Kris in the beginning, I had to re-watch the show to remember how good he actually was all along. I think that's going to happen with Kris, it's not an explosion it's steady burn.

Sorry, I don't think I get that reference.

I don't know much about Dallas Green so I always think of Leah Miller whenever I see him and am distracted by my thoughts about what an odd couple they seem to be. lol. He has a really good voice.

All good points. Though I'm not sure Cook was ever the underdog per se (well, maybe before the top 10, but not after "Billie Jean"). Looking back, I don't see any way he could've lost. Maybe he wouldn't have won with that big of a margin hadn't people been ticked off by Simon's awful comments (I was so angry that night, you wouldn't believe it), but I think he would've won anyway.

Thanks for the Dallas Green video. I don't know the song either, but the guy's got a hell of a voice!

They didn't quite say Thanks for coming out - but they did make it clear that they didn't expect Kris to win. That's what I meant by that.

Yeah, me too. Dallas is awesome. His other band Alexisonfire always distracts me with the Leah Miller pairing. LOL

Leah's in his video for the girl though - and it tells the tale. (such a beautiful song)

I added a bit above. I meant that David A. started out the frontrunner and stayed pretty high in the judges estimation. He was always one of the ones to beat - where Kris I think was never one of the judges picks. But you're right David Cook wasn't the underdog by the end.

He does, he does. :) He's also a fellow plaid wearer. I think I've only seen him in plaid. (I kid, I kid)

LOL. Yeah, I edited my post a bit too, to reflect this...

Okay, that's what I thought you meant!

I was real happy about the Fray and Kris playing together. If the song he wrote with Joe King makes the CD, that would be interesting.

That brings up something I've been wondering. For appearances like this, do you think Kris will have backup? I hope he's not going to have to just accompany himself on guitar wherever he plays. Like, what do other Idol performers do, esp. the ones who can't play instruments?

Well, he's going to need a band at some point for sure. I think when he'll perform LLWD around the date of his CD release, he'll have a band with him. I guess when they're done with the album, they can look for a band, probably by auditionning musicians. That's how Cook found the amazing drummer Kyle and ex-member Joey. Maybe they've already started to do that. But, yeah, I think in December, he'll definitely have a band playing with him.

This was part of a post on TWoP:

I heard LLWD for the first time on radio when I went to get some snacks at 7-11 earlier today. It was glorious and completely unexpected since I thought that Singapore would at least wait a while before playing it.

I don't know what surprises me more, that they're playing LLWD in Singapore or that they have 7-11's there. lol

I have an AOL homepage on my computer, and they have these news headlines on there, kind of like come-ons, and if you click on the link, and read the actual article, the headline usually turns out to be somewhat bogus.

There was one on there this morning with a picture of Allison. And the headline "Ex-Idol takes swipe at show. Claims contest isn't about singing."

If you click on the link there's a Pop Eater article and an interview with her, where she answers a question:

"How did you deal with all of the criticism laid out on 'Idol'?"

"It's hard to take at first, but people should be prepared before they audition. The whole show of 'Idol' is not about your singing. It's pretty much... it's favoritism. I don't know, but that's pretty much what it is."

...And that's it.

Anyhow, they feature a clip of her single you can listen to. This is pretty good publicity. I don't think AOL mentioned Kris's single, that I can recall. But then he probably said nothing controversial to Pop Eater.

One thing that has been happening lately when search Google News is articles about Adam. The first three items being:

Pre-sale orders surge for 'American Idol' runner-up Adam Lambert's ...
New York Daily News - Jacob E. Osterhout - ‎Sep 29, 2009‎
Not too shabby for a guy who lost to his former roommate Kris Allen in the finals of "American Idol." Not that Lambert holds a grudge. ...
Pre-sale surge for Adam Lambert's debut CD CNN International
'American Idol' Contestant to Debut Ahead of Madonna, The Beatles

This is an article by MJ Santilli (mj from mj's blog) in the NYPost.

Lambert riot

The comments under this one aren't the usual. A lot are from non-idol fans and have a totally different slant. Not especially favorable.

People who say "mj's blog is an Adam fansite" (like me): the latest entries about Adam and Kris were Kris to appear with the Fray, and Adam may tour with Lady Gaga. The Kris post got 64 comments, the Adam post got 446 comments. So far. lol.

I was kind of unclear back there -- I meant when I search Kris on Google News I get those articles about Adam.

Here's a Jim Cantiello article about Allison's single. Interesting that his and Slezak's fave was Allison.

Allison Iraheta’s ‘Friday I’ll Be Over U’: Does The ‘Idol’ Rocker Deserve Better? » MTV Newsroom

Since I need a Kris fix, I guess, I decided to wade into the comments on 'that' blog about Kris and The Fray. I haven't looked at comments over there for a while. I came in at the end, and, unbelievably, it must have deteriorated into a "did Kris steal Heartless from The Fray?" argument.

It pisses me off so much when regulars, who know better, jump into these fan wars, even if it’s just to wag your fingers at the participants. It just leaves so much more for me to clean up.
And I’ve banned a bunch of you. A couple of you are very lucky I’ve let you off the hook tonight–but you are working on your second strike.
If someone jumps in to criticize your Idol? How about ignoring it? Or at the very least, answering with reasoned debate. Because, here’s the thing: If you respond in a defensive or nasty way? I’m going to ban you. OK?
And those of you who spend more time baiting fans of the Idol you’re not a fan of, rather than discussing the one that’s your favorite? That makes you a troll as far as I’m concerned, and that gets YOU banned as well.
Kris vs. Heartless and the Fray? No longer a topic to be discussed in this thread.

(I never really saw her address the trolls in such a direct way -- but she may have, I don't know. Good for her, anyhow.)

Heartless? Really? Would this even cross your mind? I mean, Kris and Joe King are friendly. They're collaborators! Haha! This really goes along with what I said recently about how creeps will find something controversial in every good thing announced about Kris. And then beat it to death. Unbelievable! Same crap, different day. *shakes head*

What I'm wondering is: will there be any shows like that in this area? That would be awesome.

I also really want Kris to do a college tour, I don't want to give the impression I don't think that's a fantastic idea. It's really the best idea.

LOL ross. I think we had guessed (well, I had) that you were indeed looking from Kris on Google News and not for Adam!

Gah. David posted on twitter yesterday that he woke up sick, went to the doctor's and was diagnosed with tonsilitis. Yesterday, I thought "Good that he has a few days to rest before his next series of shows (including my show in Clifton Park Friday)", but today, someone posted elsewhere that they were already bracing for cancellations. I mean, of course, I want David to fully recover as fast as possible, but I hope he won't have to cancel shows for that! Now I'm going to be worried for the next couple of days. Clifton Park on Friday is their next show, so I hope he'll be OK to perform! Get well soon David!

Oh nooooo!!!!

I've had that a couple of times, once it was brutal (still have my tonsils). The throat is beyond sore with that. Very painful.

Oh, wow. That sucks. I hope your show isn't cancelled. But I'm thinking, at least you got to see him recently. You're pretty lucky Clifton wasn't the only show you had the chance to go to.

He may get some good drugs and recover fast, too.

'Scuse my dwelling a bit on the negative re the blog. I tend to repeat my opinions on that. But I thought it was interesting! Human nature. It's pretty interesting. :)

LOL ross. I think we had guessed (well, I had) that you were indeed looking from Kris on Google News and not for Adam!

You guessed that, did you? :-| HAHA! I'm shocked.

I know. That's what my brain is saying. I'm not sure the brain reigns supreme in these matters though...

Anyway, he didn't seem to bad yesterday, he said that he was getting some rest and stockpiling energy for the weekend. Who knows how it can evolve though?

Hopefully David will be feeling better for your next show missaddicted.

What kind of cigarette does he say he smokes?

That would be a jazz cigarette. ;) The funny kind that give you the munchies. Explains the blog really, lol.

Can I just say that I hated that denim vest? For fashion sense alone. Hated. Well, that might be giving it too much umph.. but I never liked it anyway. (but I had no idea there was even anything written on it, lol)

The comments in that Kris/Fray article at MJ's were really hostile. I think MJ deleted half that thread since there were almost 100 comments when I read it.
