Canadian Idol Fans Watching American Idol

I just googled Mike Elizondo, because I remembered reading his name in the last few days and I wasn't sure where. Wikipedia says that he's actually worked with a lot of different artists aside from hip hop and rap artists: Fiona Apple, Alanis Morissette, Maroon 5, Natasha Bedingfield, Kate Voegele, Switchfoot. He also has an Idol connection already, as he produced Blake Lewis' first CD. I read his name a couple of days ago since he also co-produced Regina Spektor's last record. He's been working with Kris, no? I seem to remember that, but so many names have been mentionned as possible collaborators.
I don't know, isn't it better for a producer to be versatile? They're not the songwriters after all. Their job is basically to make the record sound good, no?

I'll be honest with you. Hearing Adam get bigger cheers than Kris is something that just cuts me. I don't know how I got through it the first time. It was hard. I sort of was able to be in denial. It's totally stupid even to let it bug me, I know. But a person gets invested. You know how it is. Just being totally candid for a second.
If it wasn't for that, I would go to that last concert in a heartbeat. I'm even on vacation that week, and I'm probably not going away. If I do go away, I'll probably be in Maine, closer to the concert than I am now. I could also go to the Portland (Maine) show, instead. I'm much more familiar with Portland than I am with Manchester, and I wouldn't mind spending the day in Portland. But as you can see on this map, Manchester is closer to Boston. Providence (Rhode Island) is even closer. There's a show there, too.
missaddicted, we don't know if Elizondo is working with Kris or not. This was just speculation because there was a picture of him with Kris and Chris Daughtry in the studio. I guess Kris worked with him that one day, anyway.
Nothing has been confirmed, but he was identified in a picture with Kris and Chris Daughtry. So who knows? He may be hanging out, or he may be producing, or he may be songwriting.. I'd like to see him as the producer, but Kris and his team are so hush hush.
I'm so happy Chris Daughtry has been championing Kris, he seems to have made a lot of contacts in the industry since his time on Idol and I'm really curious about what they did together.
Ross, the final show should be pretty epic {enabler} they've said in many interviews that they have a lot of things planned for the final show {enabler}.
Adam's gonna get the loud applause. From what I've heard on youtube and the cellcasts Kris gets a loud reception too.. not as loud as Adam does, but the audience doesn't seem to be bored or anything. They're usually pretty loud.. plus they will be louder if you are there.. {enabler}

The thing about Adam and the thunderous applause and screams, it's not like he captures the audience, they are already an Adam audience when they come into the venue (we know this due to the screams for the Ford videos). Which means they really aren't a Kris audience. In other words, the ratio might be 2 to 1 Adam fans to Kris fans. I don't know.
Does this reflect reality? I don't think so. We know Kris won. We know Adam was never ahead of him on DialIdol, on their final night, and that's land lines, no texting or cellphone votes. So even though there is still this lingering perception that somehow without massive votes from Arkakansas Kris would have lost, it's bogus. It always was pretty ridiculous; there are 50 states, after all.
So it's bizarre the way this happens at the concerts. We haven't talked about this for a while, because it's just sort of a given, at this point. But I feel the Adam fans are sort of mobilzed by the fact that he lost. A lot of them still seem not to have gotten over it, which I'm beginning to find really bizarre. It's getting on to a quarter of a year, now, after all, since Kris won! But anyway, I think it just makes them so much more militant. Yeah, they go to the concert to see Adam perform, but some of them also go to scream the loudest for him. I mean, you have to realize, if these people were good sports, they'd applaud and scream almost as loud for Kris. Just because he won. You should cheer someone for winning a competition. But I don't know what they do, they must sit on their hands, a lot of them. I cheered for Adam, and for everybody. But I don't believe a lot of the Adam fans cheer for anybody but Adam, or else you wouldn't hear such a difference.

I think you have a point with that Ross. I think it does come into play for the screaming over his picture on the screen and for sure with the hysteria. I know Adam is a good singer but surely his vocals haven't changed all that much since he was singing in LA. I know he stood out even then because the podcast Idle Review that I listen too remembered him from going to that 10 Commandments show.. they remembered his vocals..and that he was amazing but his voice didn't cause hysteria during the show. So yes, for sure there is a bit of crazy fandom happening. But the guy does have an amazing voice so he can validate the crazy reaction to a certain extent.

Maybe, but the runner up shouldn't get a bigger reaction than the winner, unless there are a lot more fans of the runner up there, than there are of the winner. That seems simplistic but I think that's the reason.
Why? I don't know. But, judging from mj's blog, Adam seems to appeal a lot more than Kris to the die-hard, old-guard Idol fans. The people who go to concerts, possibly. Probably. I never watched this show before, never went to a concert. I nearly didn't go to this one. And I'm a Kris fan. I think there are a lot of people like me. Who knows?
That's a good point. I think American Idol spent a lot of years pimping the big voices and glory notes, so yeah I think you're right the old Idol guard is impressed by that.
Remember that blog that posted about Kris being more like the winner's of Canadian Idol? I still think that he was right. I've always been way more interested in the musical choices of the Canadian Idol kids. It's only been the past few years that I've thought the AI peeps have picked songs that I actually like. I mean even back to Kelly Clarkson, on the show she didn't sing any songs that sounded current. Where for me CI started out in the first season with Billy who's Levon sounded really current.
I think it will be interesting to observe how Adam's fanbase changes. Because I think it will, as the description he gives his music may not appeal to some of his fans. Although, I could be completely wrong. There may be some closet electronica loving Idol fans. Who knows? I have a soft spot for some of the bands that Adam mentions as influences so maybe I'm wrong and he will help bring that into the mainstream. But I wonder.
I should have replied sooner but I was over at mj's blog responding to some dumb post. I have to stop doing that. I have read same these posts so many times, they're just by different people. If you know what I mean. The recapper was the Canadian one, I forget her name. It was a recap of the Ontario show that just was posted today.
The recapper said that Adam lacked maturity (as an artist). I knew the point she was trying to make, it made sense. Anyhow, one person responded by comparing Adam and Kris, and these people always say Kris has no life experience, no music experience, is from a small town, married his high school sweetheart, etc.
I went through a few details about Kris having traveled the world, worked with AIDS patients, having almost died, whatever. Even if he didn't do these things, I would never assume his life has been easy. I don't actually think anyone's life is easy! Life is hard. Emotionally. No one gets a free ride.
But what I get really sick of is these people who think Adam is more admirable because he devoted years to his singing/acting career. Is this more admirable than building houses in third world countries, helping other people, whatever? Just because Kris hasn't been all about his career, this is supposed to be bad? Unambitious? I am so in disagreement with this. Kris gave years to music. The viola, teaching himself to play guitar, learning to write music and lyrics (and he's really good). Etc.
I'm of the opinion that (a lot like Adam) Kris was learning his craft and growing, and when the time was right, everything came together. That's usually the way artists "happen." Life experience plus artistic experience come together at a fortunate point, and a little luck helps, too. They were both ready. If not, they wouldn't be where they are.

Argh - you caught me. My logic is flawed *hangs head* you're right, what am I talking about? lol ..(it's late..I'm babbling on) my favourites never won. Until Brian. He was the first of my CI faves who actually won CI - and I haven't really been excited about the music he put out. I kinda skipped through the Melissa (especially Rex.. bless his heart), Eva years (although Eva put out some good music after idol) I guess I'm thinking about song choice in general from all of them series wide being more current. (I think that's what I'm thinking anyway..or am I?)
Maybe It's just the fact that the demographic of the Idol viewer skews to that power note.

and yep Kris when you start to really learn more about the guy is kinda fascinating. Missing rib, to deathly illness, to building houses and handing out sandwiches after tsunami's, wife that was Homecoming Queen of her college.. Idol producers missed so many stories I almost feel bad for them for trying to get information from Kris. Must have been hard for them.

No your logic was good. But I'm kind of amazed that the first performer like that who actually did win (Kris), ended up winning AI, not CI! Pretty weird. Funny you mentioned Brian because I originally had him in my post. But I cut him. Yeah, I was going to say Brian is the closest one to the Kris type to ever win CI.
But, you know, Kris has a rather big voice, himself. It just tends not to be a loud or blasting voice like Adam or Danny. Not a 'glory note' voice (though he certainly can do them -- like when he sang the SSB). In this way he's actually somewhat like the CI winners, Theo and Kalan. He rearely gets credit for his voice being 'large', but lately I notice a lot of recaps have mentioned it.

Lol - true! Yeah, I think Kris's voice is stronger too - and he's got some notes that just flat out kill me. I think will continue to surprise a lot of people, because he does have a lower profile than Adam does. And that might actually be a really good thing for him.

Hm. Maybe one of the reasons Kris was so unbeatable is because he's like a combo of the Kalan type of idol, and the Brian type of Idol. On the show he could sing almost any kind of pop music, and also play instruments. This guy sang r&b, ballads, funk, jazz, and rock, on the show. Everything from Motown to Falling Slowly to The Way You Look Tonight to Come Together to Heartless. And played acoustic and electric guitar, and piano. He's kind of incredible. It's hard to think of anyone else on the show who really showed that kind of versatility, or musicianship. (Adam came closest. But he really showed more versatility on YouTube than on AI.) The mystery isn't how he won, but why he wasn't the front runner all along.
If he wasn't. Who knows? I think he was probably a solid middle runner who slowly gained ground and held it, by being talented and never screwing up, either in perfomance or with the judges. I think he built the foundation for his win brick by brick. He may have come from behind, in the final stretch, suddenly, to beat the so-called favorites, but I've never been able to come up with any reason why that would happen. (Just on the strength of Heartless? I doubt that.) And how do you beat favorites without being one yourself? ;-)

David Gray will be playing here on Oct. 23rd (at the Wang Theatre.) I wonder when the pool party will be? Hopefully not at the end of October. That would be a mite chilly (and wouldn't really be the end of the summer, exactly).
I wonder if the poor little dude has to play that pool party on a night off from the concert? (They have 9/11 off.) Or maybe just after the end of the tour? I'll have to listen tuesday. I was listening for who won Daughtry tickets not long ago and it was the same woman who had won them the time before. I'll never win those things. I have some slight connections in the radio biz in Boston (public radio, though), maybe I'll see if I can find something out, or get tickets, or something.

PS. Somebody castigated me on mj's for my defense of Kris you read last night. It went on for pages, or so it seemed. But they were right, in a way. I went a little far in making it like Kris is more of a saint than Adam. I took that part back. But the rest, no way!!! Suck it up, haters!!!
