Yeah, I know. You do want someone you support to go over with people, though. I guess for some reason, because this guy was on KrisAllenation tonight, I assumed he liked Kris. I was stunned by his remark for that reason.

Plus, it's hard for me to hear people saying Adam was better because Adam's voice seriously grates on me. Just my honest reaction, not being mean or unfair, it's just a visceral reaction. Like, tonight, when he was singing Slow Ride, I had to turn the sound off. I don't like his ballads, either, so what can I say? That makes it harder for me to hear him praised so ridiculously much. I guess.

It was nice to hear and see a couple of songs of Kris tonight.

You added to your post! Good points.

I do think there's one thing wrong with Kris's set (and I'm not going to say "No Falling Slowly" Well, not exactly, but close)...which is that he doesn't have a moment of stillness. Which is one of his strengths. I don't think he pauses and lets the audience come to him. Falling Slowly would be a good thing, or some similar thing, where he doesn't play any instrument and just stands still and sings. Or sits. In a way, in his set, he's trying too hard. And he belts all his songs. In the middle of his set, he should bring it down, not move, sing softly, draw the audience in. He can sing as softly and personally as he wants, he's miked, after all. I know this would make a difference and also make everyone understand why he's there.

Okay...tomorrow's another day.

No I totally get that. I think there is a lot of hysterical Adam love going on at the moment, but that doesn't mean that it's all hysterical. If that makes any sense??

I think the stream guy was mainly trying to get viewers for his ustream channel come the fall. He kept cutting everyone off. He did say that Kris was talented. So I'll take that. And yeah, it was great to see Kris. And Kris sounded amazing. I think he actually showed more of Kris's set. :)

I was thinking that too - about the lack of just pure singing in his set (without instrument) That's a good point. Night Ross

I actually think Kris and the others who don't have years of stage experience are doing incredibly well, particularly Kris, of course, who just amazes me. I mean, if it's really true that he's only played bars and some concerts in his home town he is so amazingly professional. If this is what he's like now, I can't believe how good he'll be when all this is second nature to him.

I'm thinking about what I wrote last night, I think it's still a pretty good point in the light of day. About Kris's set. I'd say Ain't No Sunshine is supposed to be his ballad, in the set. I've heard people say they love ANS more than anything, that it's their favorite number of his, and so I can't see him ditching it, but that is where I would put the "other" ballad in his set, the one I talked about above.

My other comment about Adam that I always mean to say is that they've given him a lot of time onstage for the runner up, five songs (even if one is a duet, I don't think that makes a difference, time onstage is time onstage). I do think the massiveness of his set for a non-winner contributes to the "it's Adam's concert" thing, and I never thought it was fair. Not that Kris can't hold his own, he always proves that. But it's an almost subliminal message to the audience that Adam is not subordinate to Kris in this concert (as opposed to Archie's 4 songs to Cook's 5).

You probably think I've lost my mind in obsessing over this crap this much, but, hey, that's the fun of it, right? :)

LOL - look who's obsessing with you. Seriously, we've both lost our minds. :p

That's an interesting thought though about Adam's set being so over the top - I really don't think it could go any other way though, because that's just who Adam is as a performer. He loves the flash and the over the top dramatics, and for me he does them well, I don't personally think anyone BUT Kris could have performed after Adam and got the people to listen to him. There's no way Idol could have had Adam perform without flash, in the same way that they couldn't have Matt perform without the piano. The tour is supposed to be about showing a little bit more about them as performers in their own individual styles and Adam's style is inherently dramatic - I think if you take away the lights etc. he still would have brought drama in some fashion.

Hey! You guys are as volubile as ever! Don't lose your minds though, I won't have anymore interesting posts to read!

OK, that's a lame post, but I don't really have anything else to add! Just wanted to let you that I'm still reading I guess!

Grrr...I just lost my post...twice!

Okay (condensed version, here). I really liked those interviews! Thanks!

I remember when I read that a woman came up to Kris in NYC and grapped his arm and kissed his cheek. After she left, he took out Purell hand sanitizer and wiped off his arm and face. So I can guess how he reacted to this latest indignity...

Matt is a good guy and I like his hats. I have a lot of hats, myself, I don't know why. Maybe because Brian Melo is my hero? ;-) ...

Danny is, well, Danny. And Lil...well, my hand slipped and I must have fast-forwarded through most of her interview...

That station in Memphis has to stop playing NB and start playing Heartless. (I still am not hearing Heartless on Mix98.5. Where did it go? By the way, that station is moving up the dial, soon, so if you look it up on the 'net again it may not be there. You could just look up WBMX, though.)

That's an interesting thought though about Adam's set being so over the top - I really don't think it could go any other way though, because that's just who Adam is as a performer. SleepinIn, I think I was pretty confusing in my choice of words, because when I referred to Adam's "massive set," I meant his song set, not the stage set. I just meant he gets a lot of time onstage for a runner up, basically equal time with Kris. (Five numbers each.) And with the Bowie medley, he's actually singing seven different songs. Compared to Archie's four numbers last year.

So I was saying, if Adam had only four songs, and a 15 minute set, and Kris had five songs, and a twenty minute set, maybe Adam wouldn't appear to dominate the proceedings quite as much. Or maybe he would, I don't know.

But yeah, I've actually had some misgivings about his fog-and-light show, also. I would have to see the whole show to see just how (or if) it makes his segment stand out, I guess.

MTV Newsroom » Blog Archive » Kris Allen And I Are Totally Best Friends

Okay, Ross you totally have to tell me what happens in this interview. I need to know.

So I was saying, if Adam had only four songs, and a 15 minute set, and Kris had five songs, and a twenty minute set, maybe Adam wouldn't appear to dominate the proceedings quite as much. Or maybe he would, I don't know.
I don't know either. It's that damn Bowie medley I think -throws everything off. lol. I actually don't mind people underestimating Kris at this point. I mean I'd like them to know he's out there and all but the Idol Cd is usually such a weird beastie. I already have high hopes just because of Kris's ability to know himself and his music but I don't mind if when his Cd is released people are surprised by how good it is. (see: High Hopes)

Did you read about Kris's plans to write with Chris Daughtry this week? (I've also heard rumors about him writing with Joe King again)

OH!! And the other news I read is that Jordan Sparks CD comes with an advertisement for Kris's cd. Kinda makes me want to buy it. LOL

and Yay! Missaddicted glad you're still floating around out there. :)

Jim Cantiello: So you're working on the album at the same time...

Kris: Yeah!

JC; (sarcastic): We want to hear some more news about it, becuase we're MTV news and we report on music...

Kris (sarcastic, laughing) Are you sure about that?

JC: Ouch.

Kris: Yikes!

JC: (Gestures like he's trying to draw more info out of Kris, like, "Come on, talk.")

Kris: No, it's good. We're working on it...

JC: Who's we?

Kris: Uh, everyone!

JC: (Looks at camera, annoyed, cracks Kris up)

Kris: (laughing) No, I, you know, just different people...(Cantiello laughs)...(Kris shugs) I'm not gonna say any names. But not a whole lot has changed, in the past month or so (Cantiello gives him a "Yeah, right!" look)...um, we don't have songs...completed, or anything like that. (Cantiello shakes his head.)

JC (sighs) All right, all right, give everyone the sales pitch, why should people come see you on tour?

Kris: (To camera) Jim hates me.

JC: I don't...

Kris: (Smiles huge smile) You don't hate me?

JC: I'm a little sad.

Kris: Sorry. Um, come see us on tour because we're friggin' awesome.

JC: (Nods enthusiastically) Rock and roll.

Kris: Rock and roll. (Makes the rock 'horns'.)

JC: And follow him on twitter because he's a good twitterer.

Kris: Yeah. (Shakes Jim's hand) I'm a good twitterer? Are you a good twitterer?

JC: I'm an awesome twitterer, you need to follow me.

Kris: (walking away) I'm gonna follow you, then.

I noticed comments about it when I skimmed the comments on mj's blog. I think it's great he's working with both those guys. They write hits. People were commenting that Kris shouldn't "go in that direction" (Daughtry), but that's not the direction he's going in. He's just working with him. Songwriting and working on...whatever. It's very different. (I mean, Chad Kroeger of Nickleback discovered and got Faber Drive signed and worked with them, and how different are those two bands? Just for an example.) It's clear Chris respects Kris and loves his style, and it's all good, it seems to me.

But I'm still somewhat bummed about no Heartless re-do (I don't let things go. You may have noticed! Ha.)

Thanks for the re-cap Ross. When I can't get that MTV video to play I get testy. lol Kris is the master at deflecting questions isn't he? Total ninja Idol as someone called him.

I agree with you. Chris Daughtry always liked Kris and that for me is a great place to start. And I see it the same way that you do. I think Nickleback helped Chris D a lot and I see Chris helping Kris out as a good thing too. (I actually kinda like Nickelback - straight up rock music - I don't have a problem with it) That being said I don't think that they are going to be copying each others styles - just writing with each other and seeing what happens.

I want that Heartless re-do too. Damn!

Just heard that Kris Allen’s version of “Falling Slowly” is supposedly being used for a rumba on SYTYCD tomorrow night, along with Jordin’s “Battlefield” for a pop jazz piece.

I just read this in the comments on mj's blog. It makes no sense (Falling Slowly being used for a rhumba? How can they do a rhumba to that?). But it may make me tune in to that show that I never watch.

Umm...Nickleback. They get a lot of hate. I have nothing against them, either. Just seems like certain bands somehow become ones it's cool to hate. They're actually good and I like listening to them, too. (I also like Faber Drive a lot. I'm kind of surprised their new single is a dance track, though! Kalan Porter is supposed to be doing some dance music, also. It's hot right now. If Adam does anything like this, it's the perfect time for him to ride that wave.)

Do you ever get to play the MTV videos, or are you always restricted from watching them? "Total ninja Idol" --yeah, that's him!

I'm actually really interested in what Kalan's doing at the moment. He's posted links to the music he's listening to on his twitter and it is really dance oriented and stuff I really like. He was so young when he won Idol and even then he was talented that I think he got boxed in by the corporations a bit... that and the hair.. I wanted him to cut the hair for years. (shallow and yet still right) And yeah the dance wave is big at the moment which is good for Adam - especially internationally.

Always restricted. They don't like Canadians *sniff* Actually I don't think you would be able to watch the MTV canada stuff either. (although I could be wrong since I can't test that out) MTV/VH1 is really territorial with their stuff. I don't know why they are since it's MTV news piece. You'd think they'd want people to see it.

Something to do with copyright laws? I can't watch Canadian Idol videos on CTV, for example.

Well, I may check out SYTYCD tomorrow...

SYTYCD is using Heartless not Falling Slowly. Makes more sense for a dance number.

By the way, it bugs me about Adam rejecting the hybrid he was presented with, originally. This is a pic of smog over Los Angeles. You know what I'm saying? Okay, I'll get down off my high horse now.
