Oh, I forgot to tell you. I emailed the guy who wrote the Toronto Star piece about Adam, asking why they (the Star) never seem to do anything on Kris. He wrote me back, saying he was assigned to do the interview, and the reason was probably because Adam was on the cover of Rolling Stone. He said he'd be glad to cover Kris, too, at some future point. I thanked him, and he wrote back saying when Kris's album drops he'll try to do a piece on him then.

I got the impression he knew very little about AI and was simply doing what he was told. And what he was told was to interview the idol who was on the cover of Rolling Stone.

Kris reminds me of Gordon Lightfoot, someone like that. Just kind of modest and sincere. But his humor is great, too. I laughed out loud when he taked about the woman who said they ruined her wedding. And he did mention he was third in the state-wide viola competition. Thank God he didn't come in first. I hear there were some very invested viola fans who thought the other two people were soooo much better. Ha.

Stereos. I meant to listen to that yesterday, actually , because someone asked me to. Thanks for posting. I hate autotune. Hate! Is it supposed to be something new? Some music from the 80's had that sound. Like someone singing into a tin can.

I'm just really surprised Hedley and Faber jumped on that bandwagon. It makes no sense, to me. And Kalan is also doing something dancey and electronic.

I forgot to mention the link you posted re Adam's collaborator. Don't laugh, but I could see David Archuleta singing that song. It just reminded me of his style. That wasn't meant as a negative comment!

I'm not sure why Adam's collaborators are so talkative, or why he has so many. But Adam doesn't really write, so he might need more. I also think he really has no singing style or genre. This isn't a put down, but we know nothing more about "who he is as an artist" now than we ever did. So either they're trying to find a style for him, or else they're going to showcase how versatile he is. Maybe? Ha. Who knows?

With Adam, I think it's kind of a case of them plugging him into hook-y, hit-type songs and letting him sing his head off. He never said he wanted to create great art. He always says the kind of music he wants to make is the kind that people can have fun with and dance to. That never has struck me as setting the bar very high, but, whatever.

You're awesome Ross. yay! RS does have a big impact still doesn't it? I hope Adam can live up to the hype, because that pedestal he's standing on could bring a big fall. I think Adam is talented enough to do it, but it's a lot of pressure to put on him as a new-ish artist.

Thank God he didn't come in first. I hear there were some very invested viola fans who thought the other two people were soooo much better. Ha.
Almost fell off my chair there. lmao.

I live in hope Kalan does dancey electronic without the auto-tune. I'm not a fan of the auto-tune myself. Well, I guess Hedley always does have some dance elements in their shows but did you check out the comments on twitter? LOL the fans are skittish. They no likey Ca-ching. I do think it's a catchy song, but I'd so rather have something like the Red Piano song.

I know what you mean - Dancey electronic isn't really his style. Although I can't remember which Nelly Furtado album he produced (maybe the first one?) So who knows what their songs will be like. I actually think his style is more similar to Kris's than Adam's.

But Adam doesn't really write, so he might need more. I also think he really has no singing style or genre. This isn't a put down, but we know nothing more about "who he is as an artist" now than we ever did. So either they're trying to find a style for him, or else they're going to showcase his versatility.
That's a good point. Is Adam writing on the album? I mean he can probably sing anything, so as to why they're all so blabby maybe it's just a case of grabbing a quick moment of Adam's shiny fame. That was one of my issues with Adam as the winner. I don't really know who he really is as an artist, he is still largely undefined. Other than the fact that he has an amazing (amazing) voice. Which I guess is all the other AI winners had - but when I weigh that against Kris's voice, and skill with song choice and rearrangements it never measured up.

I'd best get to bed :)

HAVE FUN TOMORROW ROSS!!!!! SQUEE FOR ME (you can do it in a manly way - lol) :)

I like the Red Piano Song too! I have to wonder what the parents would make of the little girl tweens singing "Alcohol, you'll be my girlfriend," though. :)

As for Kalan, I have to ask: why does he have to do dance music? I'm sort of afraid it might end up sounding like Rick Astley. But other than that, I just think he's not really the type. (I guess he disagrees. How dare he?)

Anyhow, I've been really happy with a lot of the music Kalan and Jacob have made, so I want to keep liking them.

The tweets about Cha-Ching...interesting. I'll have to check them out...

Goodnight. I'll be thinking of you and missaddicted tomorrow night. Too bad I can't tweet from my phone! Anyway, listen to the cellcast, if you can...

Oh, this is good. Kris tweet:

I would be right across from Fenway Park and the Red Sox are out of town. DANGIT!

I got Kris a small gift the other day when I was at a Red Sox game. A Red Sox baseball from Fenway Park. I intended to give it to him if I went to the buses. Now I'm pretty sure that one way or the other I should get to those buses, because I want him to get that. Maybe I can go to the barricades after the show. But I can't carry that damn ball around all night! LOL.

COOK COMMENTS ON LAMBERT, ALLEN

by Bill Pinella

No need to ask David Cook who received the loudest applause at the Aug. 7, 2009 American Idol Tour stop in Atlantic City. He heard the ovation for this year’s runnerup Adam Lambert compared to that given to winner Kris Allen.
“Yes, but last year I always felt like Archie (season 7 runnerup David Archuleta) got more response on the Idol Tour than I did,” Cook told IdolChatter in a phone interview last week.
“I did get to watch the show (on TV) this season. I thought there was a great amount of talent on it. And on the American Idol Tour I thought everyone was representing the show very well. I feel like this Tour is a good one.”
It wasn’t on the Tour, but on an Aug. 7, 2009 segment of Good Morning America that Cook got to perform in NYC’s Central Park with Lambert and Allen.
“It was a blast and kudos to both of them,” Cook said. “We’re all going about a million miles an hour right now and they really stepped up that day and sang the song (“Sweet Little Lies”) that the band and I have been doing for for awhile.
“In a big-brotherly sort of way I was proud of both of them … although I think Adam is actually older than I am,” Cook added laughing.
“I think they both are gonna be fine, I really do. Kris seems to have a confidence of self which can only help.
“Both Adam and Kris will do fine with a record from here on out.”
So, did Cook offer them any advice?
“No, not really and I don’t know that I would have any advice to give them other than just appreciate and enjoy what comes in front of you.”

Just got in. I saw District 9 tonight, what a weird weird movie. I still don't know what to think about it...

Thank God he didn't come in first. I hear there were some very invested viola fans who thought the other two people were soooo much better. Ha.

LOL, me too!

Hey, not David! LOL.

I haven't listened to Hedley's new song yet, but I don't like either the Stereos' song or Faber Drive's (well, truthfully, I barely listened to them, but they did not catch my attention). Why do all those bands get on the dance music train? I know it's hot right now, but I'm getting really bored. I barely listen to the radio anymore in the hopes of avoiding "I Know You Want Me", the Black Eyes Peas songs, "Fire Burnin", etc. I've really had enough. I love to dance but that music is so formulaic and unoriginal. The lyrics sucks. And I'll join you ross in disliking auto-tune. No heart, only auto-tune.

OK, rant over.

Have a good show tomorrow ross (well, later today since we're already Tuesday)!!! I don't think I would go to the buses either (I hate crowds almost as much as auto-tune), but I'm sure you would really like to give you gift to Kris.

COOK COMMENTS ON LAMBERT, ALLEN

Aww, thanks for posting this, I hadn't seen that!

Kris seems to have a confidence of self which can only help.

Everybody really sees that in Kris, don't they? It must be really true!

“Yes, but last year I always felt like Archie (season 7 runnerup David Archuleta) got more response on the Idol Tour than I did,”

LOL, whatever David! If I remember correctly, the response varied from city to city, but most reports said that they were getting pretty much the same response in general.

OK, just listened to the snippet of the new Hedley song on iTunes and it totally gets two big thumbs down from me. I don't even want to hear the complete song.

ross, are you still here?

I just remembered something. While waiting for my friends tonight, I read a bit of Cosmopolitan magazine with Kristen Bell on the cover. I totally love her (Veronica Mars is my favorite TV series ever) and she totally loves American Idol. She was even in the audience at one point this season. Anyway, she said in the magazine that she would love to guest judge on AI and with all the guests judges we'll have next season (Canadian Shania Twain being the latest addition), I would totally vote yes for Kristen Bell!

I'm still glad he said that, though. Even if they got the same response, no way should Archie even get the same as Cook! He's so...Archie. It kind of made me feel better he said it.

Audience reaction aside, I still think Adam wouldn't steal the show in as many critics' eyes if TPTB hadn't given him 5 songs, including the duet. The length of his set, plus the duet being so dynamic, just give him a great advantage. Archie had four songs to prove himself with.

If you take out Slow Ride, Adam's whole set becomes less hot. WLL, Stalight, Mad World, Bowie Medley. Kind of peaks at WLL.

Okay, I'll report back after the show.

Enjoy it, ross!

Are you going to the buses?

I don't know yet. I just went out to the bank, and it was only 11am and already unbelievably hot out. I'm about 10 miles from the venue. It's usually hotter there than it is here, but the Back Bay is near the water, so sometimes it can be cooler (geography again??) My car's AC conked out just the other day, too! I've heard Kris comes out as late as 2 or 3, sometimes, so maybe I'll plan to get there by then. I doubt I can go earlier. If I don't get there I'll just send him my present, I guess. I forgot, I also got him a Red Sox hat. Just found it in the bag with the ball. Ha. Bet he never gets any baseball hats. (Joke.) Oh, well.

The fan I mentioned who bought him the Batman t-shirt he wore in those interviews, she said to me: "you can't go wrong with Urban Outfitters." I was going there, anyway, to make a return. So I looked around. I also went to PacSun (another return).

I found a few good things, but it finally felt weird, as a guy, giving another guy a nice piece of clothing. So I said, "Nah, I can't do this." (I did get myself a few good things, though. Haha.)

So, I have a lot to do and I should get going, but I'll let you guys know what's up later.

Just looked at mj's blog. Looks like Paula and AI are talking. I'm beginning to think she's coming back. Should I laugh or cry? I guess those people at Fox who were popping the champagne corks when they heard she was quitting aren't going to be happy. :)

I hope you didn't end up at the buses Ross - I heard they weren't coming out due to the venue. gah!.
