I liked a few of the CI contestants enough to want to follow their career, but nothing (or almost) is happening. THAT is discouraging to me. They don't really make or break people, but they don't really "make" them at all.
That's a good point too. Sometimes, getting your foot in the door is enough to help you push through...eventually. Carly Rae for example. That girl is everywhere lately. Anna Cyzon had a GREAT song, but I followed her on twitter for awhile. She was nuts. lol. (sorry Anna - you totally were..l had to drop you). Tara Oram is doing well, and Theo while not setting the world on fire seems to be building a fan base. Kalan is still writing music.. then Hedley is just about to release their album in Canada and the US at the same time. Look at Erica Peck too.. She was on Idol (can't remember what season - or top whatever) but she just finished a run in We Will Rock You in Toronto, and is now in the Boys in the Photograph. Idol didn't make them, but it helped introduce them, which is a good place to start.

I just watched that video without sound because I'm in work. I always think Kris moves so great! Smooth, laid back dude. I wish I moved like that. lol

What I said about Ci was a reaction to the horrendous fan warring I was reading under that examiner.com thingie (I can't call it an article). That's what I meant by CI being easy. Simple. The whole AI thing is complicated and complex. Maybe just this year, or maybe it always is. There seem to be behind the scenes forces and agendas all over the place. CI is relatively direct, in comparison.

I agree CI not giving its offspring any real career boost isn't a good thing. There have been some odd things that happened. I'm most familiar with seasons two and six. In season two, from what I understand, Kalan was doing amazingly well. Apparantly as a live act, only Avril Levigne was selling more tickets, according to what someone wrote on TWoP last year. His single was number one for two months, and his first album sold really well. This could all have been the boost from CI, but if so, it at least proves CI can give somebody a boost.

I think his career would be very different if he hadn't semi-retired for more than a year at the height of all this. Why he did that, I doubt we'll ever know, despite the reason he gave. I don't actually think it was the reason. It may have been one of the reasons.

Anyhow, I've always felt it was fortuitous for Jacob, the other CI2 breakout star, that Kalan sort of left the playing field to him at that point. There were a lot of Jalan fans.

The rest of the MTV interview with Mat Kearney is up.. kinda awesome. And yet, still we know nothing. Except the possible song is driving.. and Kris was taunting Jim with it after the interview.. lmao.

LOL at that video! You didn't miss a lot without the sound ross, we barely hear anything.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. And I think it's always been like that. Clay vs. Rubben? The aftermath must have been a bloodbath. The thing is, I believe it's not that hard to stay away from the fan warring. Yes, it's somewhat everywhere, but I mostly don't care what people hiding behind an anonymous screen name have to say (not you two, of course!), so I just don't read what I don't like. It's way too time-consuming anyway and I try to stay where the discussion is more positive and mostly intelligent and interesting.

You have a point about all the examples you gave SleepinIn. Of course, CI introduces us to talented people who may succeed at living from their art. The thing is, and it's selfish, I don't like any of the people you mentionned (and some I don't actually remember, even though I have watched all the seasons except the first), except Theo.

Isn't what happened with Kalan a bit like what happened with Clay for example? Lots of obsessive fans that made him a success at first, but were not sufficient to make him a long-term success? Not that I don't believe that Kalan won't have any success anymore, he's certainly very talented. It's hard to tell though...

LOL - I can't say any of them were ever my favourites either - well except Jacob. So yeah, I know what you mean.

Kalan was very young when he came off Idol too. You change a lot in those late teen years, and for a lot of fans it's really hard to let the artist change and follow their own direction. Kalan's cd sounded older than he was and it's funny but that video that Kalan made of him jumping out of the plane to his song was way better than the song's actual video. It actually felt like Kalan was present, if that makes any sense.

I just watched the dancers (who I hated. lol) dancing to Kris. Hated that move when she stuck her foot between his legs and it looked like he had a penis-foot coming out his ass. That was my interpretation, anyway. I start therapy tomorrow.

I love To Make You Feel My Love. Kris is a brilliant singer of love songs. Ever notice how so many of his songs on AI were love songs of one kind or another?
Newlywed.

One thing nice about Kris is how he's not afraid to show vulnerability. You see this much more in singer-songwriters than in regular rock performers, don't you think?
Still, there's something really special about the way he displays it. Can't put my finger on it.

Yeah, definitely. People really fell in love with the kid on Idol and I felt Sony never understood what made him so special. It was his niceness, humility, and charming awkwardness, along with his voice. They were always trying to make him sexy. He was already sexy, but in a completely different way.

I forgot to ask -- where is part two of the Mat Kearney interview? Is it a print interview? I've watched five clips on MTV so far (what is with them and their short clips? Drives me nuts).

LOL - fell off my chair.

Did you watch Part 1? They talked about Grey's Anatomy and Mat's songs. Felt a little bad that we're all so excited about the Mat /Kris song that we'd rather have 4 parts of Mat and Kris and only one part just Mat. But, ah, well. Since I've never really heard of Mat before Kris (although I think I've heard his music) he's just gonna have to deal with that.

Mat seemed so cool too, I can totally see Kris and him getting along. They seem to have a similar vibe. I think there are only 5 clips. and one written blurby thing.

Jim's my hero. :)

Jim is great. (I just don't totally trust him, though, for some reason. Weird! Just a vibe I get. Slezak, I'd trust with my life. And Rickey can eat me. :))

I like his shirt. I was thinking earlier about something. Have you ever thought about how there are these huge best-selling albums, that you avoid buying? Because you know that after you play this thing to death, you will never, ever want to listen to it again? There are so many CDs like that now. Lady Gaga's CD is a huge seller, but a year from now will you be able to stand listening to Poker Face ever again? What about five years from now? You will have sold the CD in your yard sale by then. I don't mind this kind of music but it's not built to last. I have some CDs I bought ten years ago I can still bring out and play and enjoy. So that is the kind of music I prefer, and hopefully that's the kind Kris prefers.

Just reading on TWoP about LLWD doing well on Z100's countdown. Came in fourth, apparently.

That's great news! Awesome.

I'm going to bed. Big day tomorrow! Big evening mostly! I'm SO excited. I think I'm losing ten to fifteen years and going back to my teenage years. Just for one night though. Well, maybe two, there is next week too after all!

Hope you have a great time missaddicted - you're probably already gone - but the sentiment remains. SQUEE! Hope it's GREAT! And it will be.

LOL ross - you should be patient. And no you have no choice but to be patient. Unless you want to mortgage something and purchase 100,000 copies of the single? No? Then yep, patience is best. ;)

Not only did Z100 have it come in #4 on their countdown - but they've played it enough that it's been added to their playlist! That is great news for Kris. It doesn't guarantee spins, but when the Number 1 station adds your single you have to figure that it will influence some of the fence sitters. So really fantastic news.

and a great review from RS (3 stars) and EW (A-) for the single, plus Billboards positive review.

Do you have a link to that Rolling Stone review, SleepinIn?
I couldn't find the EW.com review, either.

LOL ross - you should be patient. And no you have no choice but to be patient. Unless you want to mortgage something and purchase 100,000 copies of the single? No? Then yep, patience is best.

LOL. Patient it is. Hey, that reminds me. I was listening to something on the radio a couple of weeks ago about iTunes stats, and I heard something like: if you order more than five copies of a single, they disqualify those purchases from their stats. Ever heard that?

Some customer reviews of LLWD on About.com.

Kris Allen - Live Like We're Dying - Review of Live Like We're Dying by Kris Allen, First Post-American Idol Single

I can't believe how good the responses are to this song. That's why the sales numbers don't make sense. I know, I know, be patient, little grasshopper...

It is a nice, picture. Yes it is. :)

The EW one I just read in the magazine. There was no picture of Kris, but this is what it says.

Kris Allen: "Live Like We're Dying"
The Arkansas Idol champ's cover of an obscure B side from Irish pop-rockers the Script is a propulsive carpe diem anthem, part Tony Robbins, part mathlete ("We only got 86,400 seconds in a day /To turn it all around or throw it all away"). A-

To compare the reviewers taste, she gave
Britney Spears, "3" C+
John Mayer "Who Says", B
Alicia Keys "Doesn't Mean Anything", B
Carrie Underwood "Cowboy Cassanova", A-
Shakira "Did it Again", D
Susan Boyle, "Wild Horses" C
Death Cab For Cutie, "Meet Me on the Equinox", A-
Leona Lewis, "Happy", B
Justin Bieber, "One Time", B+
Foo Fighters, "Wheels", B-

That gives you context.. it was a great review.

The RS one I just saw quoted somewhere. I'll have to see if anyone posted a scan or anything.

Now, Interestingly enough there is a photo of Adam in EW. He's on the Bullseye page. On the outer edges with the quote "Not a vampire, despite what you might think" So a little snarky.

Do you think EW and RS, divided Kris and Adam up? One for each publication? Aren't they owned by the same company? I just thought it was weird.

Anyway, Allison's single had a "leak" Looks like Jive liked the leak buzz they had the other week with Kris. What do you think?

YouTube - Preview Of Allison Iraheta's New Single, "Friday I'll Be Over You"

I think it will be a hit, but it's not what I was expecting from Allison at all. Although why I wasn't expecting that given Faber Drive and Hedley's turn to the 80's - I don't know.

And Faber Drive is EVERYWHERE right now, I don't know how many spins they are getting but they are on the radio ALL THE TIME.

Hedley was on Etalk today, they showed clips from them playing at a school on We Day in Vancouver, and Jacob was mentioned as a crush by one of the girls from Degrassi on MOD.. Hedley will be on MOD on Monday.

Jive must love these reviews for Kris.

Okay, seriously. Do you think they know what they're doing? Jive. Are they promoting this much? He's the AI winner, people love the song, it's getting good reviews, etc. It's everything they could want. Shouldn't it be charting higher by now? Promotion alone ought to be able to push this thing up the charts higher than where it is now. Patience is okay, but I need to see some upward movement.

Now, Interestingly enough there is a photo of Adam in EW. He's on the Bullseye page. On the outer edges with the quote "Not a vampire, despite what you might think" So a little snarky.

Ha. I have no idea what that means. (Remember the time Kris was in the bullseye?)

Not sure I get what you mean.

Did that sound a little like Loverboy? Allison...I try to get her, but I don't get her. I guess it's not just her. I mean, it's her type. I don't usually like rocker chicks. Or maybe it's her.

And Faber Drive is EVERYWHERE right now, I don't know how many spins they are getting but they are on the radio ALL THE TIME.

I'm glad you let me know this stuff because they aren't played here, and I like those guys. I wonder if the two original guys who left the band are gonna be sorry. Or the two who replaced those two (who also left). They've had 80's overtones before this, but not a dance sound. This is the first thing they've done that's sort of a campy parody. Yet something about how Faber acts and dresses onstage is always slightly campy. Still, they do these very sincere songs too. Love songs, etc. I love their first album. It's one great song after another.

I'm watching an ad on MTV for the show called "Styl'd" -- a guy was wearing Kris's plaid shirt. The teal-blue and orangey-red shirt.
