Friends and family are stunned at the death of a young Carleton Place bride during what was supposed to be a dream Mexican honeymoon.
The Ottawa-area woman, Shannon Amy Guy, a mother of two, died Wednesday when she was on the third-floor balcony with two other people, CTV News reported. She was married in August to husband Paul and the couple just started their honeymoon.
Paul was taking a photograph of his new bride and two others when the balcony collapsed, CTV reported. Two others were injured.
On her Facebook Page, Shannon had left a message that she was 'feeling excited' as the couple awaited their flight to Mexico at Toronto's Pearson Airport on Tuesday.
"At this time tomorrow, my amazing, wonderful and incredibly handsome husband and I will be on our way to Mexico!!!!!" says another post made on Monday.
"MEXICO!!!! See y'all in a week!" said Shannon's carefree Facebook post on Tuesday.
Her husband Paul excitedly posted their arrival in their honeymoon destination the next day, adding that "all is good we are settled at the resort." The couple's phone wasn't working but they were to text family after they figured it out the next day.
But now, family and friends are mourning her death. Messages of well-wishes online have turned to condolences.
"Rest in perfect peace angel," said one message, while another sent "healing thoughts and prayers" to the family.
Canadian foreign affairs officials have confirmed the death of one Canadian and injuries to two others, but have not released any further details.
Foreign Affairs spokesman John Babcock said consular officials in Mexico have been in contact with local authorities.
"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the Canadian who passed away and the 2 other Canadians who were injured," Babcock said in an emailed statement.
