Given our claims in the arctic and the sheer size of our country, not to mention the proximity of Canada to Russia, it seems wise to immediately bring our military spending to 2% of GDP, as per our NATO commitments (currently, we are spending 1.4% of GDP).

I can think of a million things that the increased budget would be better served to fund, but those things exist in a reality where Russia is not warmongering and waging wars of conquest with its neighbours.

If Canada wishes to secure its arctic claims, and to effectively provide security for its (expansive) borders, then it is time for Canada to ante up. Russia has made it clear that when it comes to defense, it's a pay-to-play world.

Taxes are being raised, but not for bringing our military spending to 2% of GDP as per our NATO commitments, but as a punishment for going to work and not freezing in our climate that’s not human hospitable about 1/2 the year, and punishment for growing food and producing things that actually increase the nations GDP. It’s part of our April Fools taxation punchline and it’s guaranteed to increase year after year after year.

We (Canada) are only physically connected to ONE other nation, that’s ten times our population, so naturally not only our trading partner but also naturally our competition in trade, and what is their hamstringing handicapping Carbon Tax rate at again? How does that make us more competitive again? It doesn’t even make us more WOKE (even if that was a good thing).

I'm not a big fan of "tax policy" (bit of an oxymoron), but the theory is that you set taxes to encourage desired behaviors and to discourage undesired behaviors.

I understand the talking points on the carbon tax. In A city like Toronto it can make the difference between somebody driving or taking public transport, but in a city like Regina for most people it doesn’t change the fact that it does not have an effective public transport system that actually works for most people, nor does it change the fact that our winters are cold and long and our homes protect us from the environment which is not real nice most of the year.
