IIRC, they spent the money on submarines and fancy offices for the brass.

The Brass and the Beurocrats, yes. And submarines are a must for any modern Navy.

I will protest spending money on the Canadian Forces when it goes to idiotic toys or cozying up to the US. And I definitely want our troops out of Afghanistan.

What idiotic toys are you talking about? Are you saying that the military shouldn't have military equipment, like submarines and tanks?

I am all in favour of Canadain defense. We have to remember, though, defense ends at our borders. When we send troops across the world, we are waging war. Why are we waging war against the Afghans? Because Canadian businessmen want to make lots of money by sucking up to Bush.

Obviously not, as you're against the CF having proper equipment...

The US is our ally, best bulwark against invasion, and largest trading partner. They were attacked. That's why we are in Afghanistan.

And defense doesn not end at our borders.S aying that just proves that you have no idea what you're talking about. Modern warfare is as much about pre-emptive strikes as it is about standing around the border looking tough. What is the best way to defend against a missile attack? Taking out the missiles before they are launched toward us, or waiting until they cross our borders to shoot them down?

... of course then we'd have to rely on the US, since we have little chance of defending our Airspace by ourselves... but since, in your ideal world, we'd be seperate from the Yanks, we'd weather out the missile attack in Canada's new liberal manner; With our fingers in our ears and the world going to hell around us.

You crack me up Beaver. Everyone knows that only Pinky and the Brain want to rule the world. There's no point in arguing this one with you so I won't.

- Does Canada simply accept that the USA military industrial machine will rule the world?
- do we go so far as the HELP them accomplish this goal?
- do voters realise what they vote for when they vote for Harper?

Missle defence and troops in Afghanistan, plus a HUGE increase in military funding is fueling Canada's integration with the USA armed forces.

Some of us don't like it.

There is an action page at the link above, where you can send our leaders a letter telling them your resistance to Canadian tropps in Afghanistan.

They are there to help ensure a pipeline can be operated and built across Afghistan, to bring crude oil and natural gas thru the Caspian sea. Like Iraq, its all about the oil.

Epecially on military issues, Harper will cozy up to the ones who installed him as PM of Canada...no, not the voters silly! - the Elites who decide these things, the same ones who put Bush into office.

Karlin you are completely incorrect. DND spending was cut and all that money went to First Nation. HMM what more important people that have more right than everyone else or the entire nation's security
