Some...actually quite a few in canada would agree that it would be in the US's interests for it to become a full republic,

Why would it be in their interests?

in the 19th century believed that and I believe int he 20th a few still did. But I think generally Americans are happy dominating us economically

Has anyone yet said what is wrong with the system we have?

Canada is respected in most of the world. Canada has performed with excellence in two world wars and in Korea. Our economy is probably stronger than most of the G-7. What is wrong with our system of government?

That isn't true. If we had a bad Liberal leader ( like we did have) people would still vote liberal simply because they feel Conservatives are evil and the NDP are no good. Ofcourse eventually they had had enough but by then things were so screwed up that it *censored* over the new liberal leader. Which brings me to another point about the American system. I would love to have a system like that, where we can vote for our PM insted of voting for MPs and then which ever group gets the most is in power.

Paul Martin lost an actual motion of non-confidence put forward by the opposition parties, resulting in a new election (which he called of course, not that he had a choice). If it was a 'real' election, people would still vote for the same people for the same reasons i.e Conservatives=Hilter NDP=Stalin and so on. However, if he's a theiving crook, the majority obviously voted the right way.

RE: Canada, dump the crow

you've got Tim Horton's, it's wendy's dude, even I knew that!!!.

And I know there are republics in the commonwealth (like india)..and the healthcare bit isnt a cheaptrick...it's a common thing for conservatives to try and privatise healthcare, so actually it's not really relevent which system you use...your right.

Er yes actually, the monarchy effectivly is the difference between canada and the US, not so much today, but as I say, forget ur past, forget everything.

Your oil, your water, Tim Hortons maybe.

You can have Tim's. Us real coffee drinkers dont' bother with that swill. And since we're making wish lists, I'll take a sea side mansion in California, with an overflowing pool.......and man servants, naked of course!

I stopped drinking coffee, my British roots have recently embraced tea. Speaking of which, it's tea time!

I thought it was all about traditions #juan?

Who has denied tradition? My point was that being a constitutional monarchy has not hurt us in any meaningful way. Traditions are part of our strength.

Republicans are not automatically Conservative. You are confusing the Republican Party of the USA which is generally a conservative party, to that of the Republican movement. Republicans can be anything, socialist, capitalist, Social Democratic, Liberal whatever.

Either way Republic or con-Monarchy, the changes will only be slight. Our current PM is a Conservative Monarchist. However from what I've seen in the Liberal leadership race we may have another Republican as PM of Canada if Harper doesn't win the next election. However as I said before, I highly doubt a Republican as PM will mean we are going to move towards a Republic, as it is not an issue in Canada which is seen as immportant. In fact the status quo for Monarchists and Republicans seem to be the in thing. Republicans politicians seem to be generally happy inching towards a republican system, slowly. Monarchists don't seem to make a big beaf about the inching. But they make a big stir when a politician openly says we should be a republic.

RE: Canada, dump the crow

exactly.....but I was thinking of the con's over here, I think, to be honest there isnt really a more pro-monarcist country within the commonwealth than canada and I think the result would probably be no.

I think to be honest, if the UK are gonna become more integrated with the EU anyway, we could sell you a queen going cheap.....she was gonna be moved to canada if we lost the war anyway!! :)

The conservatives are just as evil. Then there is the NDP.... personally I just see Jack as a big joke. I can't see him running our country.

Daz... I don't know if we love the Queen the most. New Zealand I may think? I think we just tolerate the monarchy the most. But out of the commonwealth isn't England the most monarchist?
