Netherlands Recalls Ambassador to Iran After Dutch Staff Expelled by Tehran

Netherland's Foreign Minister Stef Blok has accused Iran of being complicit in the assassination of two Dutchmen of Iranian origin in the cities of Almere in 2015 and in the Hague in 2017.

The Netherlands has recalled its envoy to Iran after staff members of its embassy in Tehran were expelled, Foreign Minister Stef Blok announced.
"Have decided to recall the ambassador in Tehran for consultations", Blok said in a tweet. "The decision follows the expulsion of two Dutch embassy staff. That is unacceptable".
According to the minister, two Dutch diplomats to Iran were expelled from the country on 3 March. The reason for the expulsion of the Netherlands Embassy employees has not been reported.
Explaining the move, the minister stated in an official letter that it was connected with what he claimed was a liquidation by Tehran of two people of Iranian origin in the Netherlands.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry on the morning of 20 February informed the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Iran about declaring two embassy employees in Tehran "persona non grata", according to the Dutch FM.
The IRNA news agency reported in September of last year that Iran had summoned ambassadors from the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Denmark, accusing them of harbouring Iranian opposition groups, after a terrorist attack on a military parade in the Iranian city of Ahvaz.

American support for Israel falls to ten-year low, poll finds

WASHINGTON – US public support for Israel is at its lowest point in a decade, according to a recent poll.
Gallup – which surveys Americans each year on their sympathies in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict – this year found a substantial decline in support across party lines, with a surprising 13% drop among Republicans.
Overall, 59% of Americans say they side with Israel in its conflict with the Palestinians, down from 64% the prior year. But the number of Americans who sympathize more with the Palestinian cause has remain unchanged, at 21%.
“The slight decline in US sympathies toward Israel in the past year can be explained by drops among both major party groups,” reads a Gallup description of their poll results. “The percentage of Republicans saying they sympathize more with Israel in the conflict fell from an all-time high of 87% in 2018 to 76% today.”
“Last year’s reading was taken as the Donald Trump administration was preparing to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, a change that highlighted [US President Donald] Trump’s strong support of Israel,” it added.
Only 43% of Democrats say they sympathize more with Israel than with the Palestinians in their conflict. Israel has lost support among both moderate and liberal Democrats, with liberal Democrats in particular being among the least sympathetic.
