I would like to go to downtown Toronto next week but I totally forgot that it is during the G8/G20 Summit. Since I had already book my vacation during that time. Should I avoid Toronto until the G8/G20 is over but isn't the event outside of Toronto??

thanks

I expect traffic will be horrendous. I remember last year we were in Toronto during Gay Pride week (but not for Gay Pride week). Traffic was bumper to bumper at 11.30 at night.

Other than that I don’t think there should be much of a problem.

Well, you certainly can go. You can't go by train, of course. And you won't be able to do much in the heart of downtown. But you can still go.

If I were you, I would be questioning my sanity for wanting to go to Toronto at any time of the year.

It is all a matter of taste, Cliffy. We have a few friends in Toronto. They very much like the big city life, they wouldn’t move to a small town for anything in the world.

Yes I know. If you are used to drinking chlorinated water, natural spring water would taste funny.

Depends on what kind of train. Go-Transit is still operating through the G20, it's regional though. Basically from Oshawa to Hamilton.

Downtown Toronto is big. The areas you won't be able to access are Front Street, from Yonge to Spadina and north to King. Most everything else in Toronto is business as usual. If you are looking for a hotel, you probably won't find an available room anywhere downtown though.
