CALL 911-MORON: Amber Alert unleashes knuckleheads

The knucklehead brigade was again out in force.
The reason for their ire? An afternoon Amber Alert for five missing children from the Niagara region.
And as in the past, some members of the public took to 911 to complain about the alerts.
According to eye-rolling cops, a number of people phoned the emergency hotline to complain.
Toronto cop Alex Li took to Twitter urging the public to show some “compassion and understanding” over the alerts.
“The Toronto Police and Toronto Police Service Operations have been receiving calls from the public complaining about the Amber Alert,” Li tweeted.

“Please do not call police to complain, instead find compassion and have the understanding to help locate these children! Amber Alerts are issued for a reason.”
The five siblings were found safe at a cottage in the Fort Erie area on Wednesday afternoon.
Cops say the alert was issued by the Niagara Regional Police Service on Tuesday afternoon for the kids allegedly abducted by their father.
The alert expired — as is protocol — five hours later.
“Requesting an Amber Alert is not something we take lightly,” Niagara Regional Police Const. Phil Gavin told CTV News Channel.
“We recognize that we’ve impacted thousands of people around this province but we wouldn’t do that if we didn’t believe it to be important.
“We know that the Amber Alerts … in the past year, (show that) people don’t remain in the community where it (the abduction) occurred — they travel,” he said.
But most citizens airing their views on social media were furious about the 911 calls.
Chrissy Penney tweeted: “Whoever complained about the #AmberAlert should be fined for wasting police resources. You call 911 for an emergency not to complain, and for the ones that did complain, shame on you. If this was your family member, you’d be singing a very different tune.”
Another person chimed in: “To those that complain about the #AmberAlert — these 5 children were located thanks to that system. You may now go back to leading your selfish, self-centred lives. Thanks.”
So far there have been five Amber Alerts in Ontario this year — most late at night — and they also attracted a cavalcade of belly-aching.

Oh gee, my TV show was temporarily interrupted. I've been sooo inconvenienced that my day is ruined. Seriously, how f*cking self-centered and self-absorbed can people be.

MANDEL: Finally, 911 caller charged for allegedly griping about Amber Alert

An icon for an Amber Alert warning message.
Well, it’s about time.
Enough is enough with self-absorbed morons who invariably flood emergency lines to complain after every Amber Alert, selfishly caring more about a minor inconvenience than about the welfare of vulnerable children.
The perpetually irritated and annoyed can now consider themselves warned.
Hamilton Police have done what other police services should have done a long time ago — they’ve charged a cranky whiner with tying up the 911 line with his ridiculous tirade about the Amber Alert he received on his phone this week for the missing five children from Niagara region.
The poor guy was trying to have his afternoon nap, don’t you know.
“At 5:04 p.m. on October 1, 2019, Hamilton Police received a 911 call from a male who stated that he did not have an emergency and was calling 911 to purposely tie up emergency lines,” the police said in their release. “The male was angry about receiving the Amber Alert on his phone since he was trying to rest. He indicated he would continue to call in response to the ongoing alert.”
Hamilton senior Douglas Bradshaw, 70, will now be appearing in court later this month, charged with mischief.
Thankfully, the missing five kids were found safe Wednesday in a rented cottage in Fort Erie. But we have also seen far more tragic endings: Who can forget the horrible news in February that 11-year-old Riya Rajkumar had been murdered by her dad before she could be found? It was the Amber Alert, though, that led to a tipster spotting her father’s vehicle and ultimately his arrest near Orillia.
Yet, Peel Police logged 911 calls from 89 people bellyaching about the Amber Alert for Riya. They complained that it interfered with their watching the hockey game. They complained that it was an invasion of their privacy. They complained that it came too late at night — the first alarm was at 11:36 p.m. — as if child kidnappings should only happen during business hours.
And when this week’s alert was issued late in the afternoon, that was still inconvenient for too many.
Once again, exasperated police had to take to Twitter to scold the clueless and the cold.
“Please do not call police to complain,” tweeted Toronto Police Media Relations Officer Alex Li. “Instead, find compassion and have the understanding to help locate these children! Amber Alerts are issued for a reason.”
The disturbing need for such a plea just won’t end. There have only been five Amber Alerts issued this year in Ontario and each one has resulted in a surge of calls to 911 — not to help, but to protest.
What kind of heartless and self-centred.person cares more about themselves than a child in danger? Suck it up. When it comes to a matter of life and death, no one cares about your precious nap or your Leafs game.
Sure, the siren is startling to receive. Being awoken in the middle of the night is never ideal and especially frustrating when there’s nothing you can do to help.

But what if it reached someone on the road who was able to spot the suspect vehicle? Or someone working in the late night truck stop where the kidnapper just happened to be eating? Surely, finding a missing child is worth a momentary disruption to the rest of us.
If you still insist on continuing to gripe and grouse, and that’s your right, do us all a favour and do it on social media where you can receive the public shaming you deserve — and leave the 911 lines free for real emergencies and real human beings.
Otherwise, prepare to be charged.
