I strongly object to certain industries here getting off easy on their taxes ,while the citizens pay the full shot. In particular, the local water rates are much less for The Irvings and Moosehead breweries and also, they get a smaller electric bill, too. I doubt if The Irving Empire has ever paid a tax bill without fighting it for years :x

i once heard a great explanation by an economist that explained the reason that big buisseness should get tax braks and for one of the few times in my life i changed my opinion on something.

here is my summary. big buinnes tax makes it so that people getjobs in the area and each new job makes someone who contributes tax's to the govornment and buys more items that helps even more jobs. so the govornment gives them money to come here. so if you are going to give them money to come it is easier to lower there taxs.

also these places pay more in total then you do. not in percentge though.

Except that doesn't really happen. What does happen is that big business gets big tax breaks. They send the money they saved back to the mother company in the US. They cut all of high-paid, high skill jobs and management positions they can in Canada, leaving us with the lowest-paid jobs to support our economy. They try to bust the union and lobby against any legislation that might help workers. Then they demand more tax cuts and get them. The cycle continues for a while, then they pack up and move to one of the slave states or a Maquilladora in Mexico.

what is better then lowering taxs is the other thing wre you give them money on conditions. these conditions have to be good though because bad conditions your cycle will happen.

Well, in the case noted above, the Irvings and Moosehead, the money gets poured back into businesses here....they don't ship their money away, it's all tied up in operating businesses.

The rationale for cheaper water and power rates, which aren't taxes anyway, are volume discounts.

Tax breaks are a different matter altogether.
