New Orleans will have to be abandoned for at least nine months, and many of its people will remain homeless for up to two years, the US government believes.
<snip>
The criticism is all the sharper because the President did nothing to alter his holiday schedule for 48 hours. Vice-President Dick Cheney remains on holiday in Wyoming. Condoleezza Rice, the Secretary of State, returned to Washington after being seen shopping for $7,000 shoes in Manhattan as New Orleans went under.
<snip>
Although a government exercise last year predicted the course of the disaster, Mr Bush drastically cut back spending on city defences. Work on strengthening vital levees needed to keep out flood water stopped for the first time in 37 years.

I can't believe Cheney was still on vacation. I wonder how many people will change their minds about their vote for Bush. It's sad to think there will not be such a huge sway, but we are talking about turning their backs on the south right now.

You'd think that big oil people like Bush would be more concerned about the 7 oilrigs that were cut loose by Katrina and getting Louisian's oil production facilities back into operation ASAP.

I don't suppose Bush would be willing to reconsider finding ways to cut back on the 70%+ of the worlds pollutants that his nation spews into the atmosphere each year?

It's just that it seems to me as though it's having an adverse effect on the global weather conditions!!!

They claimed that the Kyoto Accord couldn't be signed as it would hurt American businesses,but the refusal to ban the use of landmines really showed the true nature of the government.What American businesses? Seems they are all located outside of the country :lol:

Bush and the governor of Louisiana should be charged with treason and gross stupidity over this. It's criminal negligence.

And of course, Bush willnow give contracts to haliburton and his other friends to rebuild....feckes. Thieves. They disgust me.

absolutely !! Criminal NEGLIGENCE indeed.

Where is the outrage??? Can one imagine the screams of the USers if this had been a predominantly white/wealthy area affected????

....yet one detects a certain indifference to these poor victims in the South. Some things still have not changed all that much in the US.......and it takes a travesty to show the "truths" How sad..
