That site you posted does nothing to assuage my fears. Note also: a close friend was a in the Canadian forces and was assigned to those BOMARC missiles. He swears that they had fake warheads. He never saw an atomic weapon in the Canadian arsenal. If Canada did take delivery of atomic weapons, they were very well hidden; even hidden from the guys who were assigned to use them. Frankly, I don't believe that Canada ever had them.

I should have posted to you differently, for I didn't mean the site I posted would alleviate your fears. I was simply making a statement. I believe your fears are unfounded. IMHO of coarse.

It may be we didn't have them, but I would bet we did and we just were not forth coming with that detail, but I have nothing to back it up with.

My point is simply that we do have enemies, and I kinda believe if you have nukes pointed at us you’re an enemy. (I live in one of those cities mentioned in the article I posted, kinda hits home, pun intended)

They won't launch a first strike. It's the United States that's trying to achieve first strike capability. As an ally of the US, we are bound to have missiles pointed at us as a result.

Russia has never shown any interest in taking over Canada outside the parameters of a war with the US. That's far more than we can say for our neighbours to the south.

My point is that we don't really have enemies. The biggest threats come from our too-cozy relationship with our war-like neighbours.

Hi! Jay

I think the Cold War was just a sham in order to keep the military establishment goin' strong.
I think we were all duped and continue to be duped.

When I hear people talking about how dangerous Russia was and know that all during the "Cold War" it was the U.S. and Canada who gave our wheat away free to the USSR .... so that the USSR could find more money to invest in their military .... is just about the way it was!

For my whole lifetime governments of the world have frightened the sh?t outta me!
They had me so afraid, that I let them run government affairs like a bunch of scoundrels, and overlooked all their "graft" because it made me feel safer to have more bombs.

The only thing the government claims to know is "military" matters. They always claim to know "future" needs and requirements or designs for war and expansion of the military complex. But, when it comes to "social" issues .... they claim surprise and act unprepared for the fiscal crisis heaped upon us.
They act surprised that there are more demands upon healthcare and social services because the population got older!

I'm almost 58 years old and I'm so ashamed that I allowed my government to play "foolish" with our futures!
I was an activist for years and years. Everyone in power told us that if they just built one more bomb and hired one more spy .... we would win the cause.

Never did I imagine that at 58 years of age, that, my children would be asked to vote upon a new law which would "decrease" my standard of living! My children being asked to vote for something which will take away what we fought the first 2 wars for.

It's pretty sick!

And, Iraq is just another page and a war that we allow to continue when negotiations could or would of won the day!

In fact the Russians even had spies in our country. But that?s nothing to be concerned about, were practically Red here anyways. :)

So did the Americans, the British and just about every other country that ran/runs spies.

Sorry Jay, but I don't fear the Russians. They have enough problems of their own. I fear the Americans with their gunboat diplomacy and manifest destiny. The present administration has gone right off the rails. They are out to dominate the world.

Sure others did have spies here, but they weren’t our sworn enemies.
They were probably just making sure we weren’t giving away the farm to Russia, as we sure didn't seem to care too much there were commi spies in our midst. Who knows?

As for manifest destiny; isn't that over? Isn't it restricted to the continent? If we really thought the Americans were coming we wouldn't have the longest unguarded boarder in the world.

The very ones your saying you have no fear of are the ones who were out to dominate the world. They did it through the communist international.
And if I may add I'm not yet convinced this threat has deflated to nothing. I think it has just taken on a whole new look.

NORAD was set up to protect the United States from Russian missiles landing on American soil not Canada’s as stated by the US Commander of NORAD in the early 1970’s, Canada was not a consideration.

The U.S. informs its allies but does not consult them.

Canada does not bring anything to the table in this agreement so why do they need us to sign on to it? We will have no say say as before. Advice doesn't need to be taken? If we don't sign on they will just do it anyway!

In my opinion Canada should start building its Military to 350.000 to defend its territory, boundaries and Peacekeeping obligations in this uni-lateral global world we now live in.

Greetings from Big Bad China y'all!

Since China was mentionned in this thread, I'll just state that China is certainly not a threat to Canada in any way, shape or form.

The Chinese all know how Dr. Norman Bethune helped them during WWII, and Mao Zedong himself wrote an essay about him as an example for all to emulate. That essay is tought in schools throughout China. Everytime I mention Canada, they immediately respond Bethune and give a thumbs up.

Now of course we don't have to agree with what Mao Zedong wrote, but that doesn't matter. The point is, the Chinese believe it, wholeheartedly, and that makes every single one of them a friend of Canada's. So China would be very hard pressed to attack Caada any time soon.

I'd like to add likewise, that China's main focus right now is on domestic issues. They've got their own problems to deal with right now without sticking their noses elsewhere. And as for Taiwan, all the PRC is asking is, don't declare independence, and Taiwan can do what it wants within those parameters (i.e. the current status).

I've been in China for well over three years now and love it.

Take care y'all.

From Big Bad China! ;)
