British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced this morning that he is resigning.

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, who was also sworn in today as the new MP for Makerfield, is the odds-on favourite to take over as Labour Party leader and British Prime Minister within weeks...

Burnham sworn in as MP. Looks set to be the new Prime Minister

On a crazy day in British politics, the Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation and then Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham was sworn in as the new MP for Makerfield in Greater Manchester after winning the recent by-election there.

Burnham has been plotting to be British Prime Minister for a while and today was the day in which he was just about given his dream job as he pledged allegiance to the King.

Burnham looks almost certain to be Labour Party leader and Prime Minister within weeks.

Brits have elected three new MPs in recent days.

Paul Dennett is now the interim mayor of Greater Manchester after Burnham became Makerfield MP. Burnham is no longer Greater Manchester Mayor.

With a population of 3 million, Greater Manchester, which includes my hometown of Bolton, is effectively the second largest city in Britain. Manchester and its large satellite towns are the second largest urban area after London.

On a dramatic day in British politics, Sir Keir Starmer has announced he will resign as Prime Minister and has set out a timetable for his departure from No 10, while his expected successor, Andy Burnham, has been sworn in as an MP.

Britain is about to get its seventh Prime Minister in a decade.
