The findings, by research group Markit, come as Britain emerges as the one of the best performing economies in the West.

The balance of plus 61 per cent was the highest in the developed world – outstripping the plus 41 per cent seen in the US and plus 37 per cent seen across the European Union.
Only Brazil registered a higher score, of plus 72 per cent, as it brushed off the slowdown in other emerging markets such as China and India.
‘The UK is the leading light among the developed world’s largest economies, suggesting the pace of UK economic growth will continue to outpace its peers,’ said Chris Williamson, chief economist at Markit.
