Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge destroys Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy at PMQs

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy stood in for Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the weekly Prime Minister's Questions (PMQs) today as Starmer is in Brazil.

PMQs (held every Wednesday) is when MPs - representing the British people, of course - ask the Prime Minister questions that concern the people they represent. It's the people Vs the PM. Democracy in action. PMQs usually sees the PM and the Leader of the Opposition confront each other.

Things got heated in the Commons today as the Deputy Prime Minister (above) and the Shadow Defence Secretary had a blazing argument

As is conventional in Britain, whenever the PM is unavailable for PMQs - as today - the Leader of the Opposition does not confront whoever speaks for the Government. Instead Tory leader Kemi Badenoch put her second in command in opposition to the Deputy PM Lammy. No2 Vs No2.

So today we saw Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy up against Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge.

Cartlidge destroyed the Deputy PM over the recent accidental release of three prisoners - two of them foreigners.

Shadow Defence Secretary Cartlidge impressed. Maybe he's a future PM.

The British House of Commons is known for being especially rowdy and confrontational but today it was especially so.

Tories destroy Government over accidental prisoner release

Democracy: The Tories displayed the British people's anger over the accidental prisoner release and destroyed the Government

Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge (Tory) destroyed Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy (Labour) in a No2 Vs No2 PMQs in the Commons today between Britain's Big Two parties.

Cartlidge expressed his anger that an Ethiopian illegal immigrant who sexually assaulted two females - including an underage girl - was accidentally released from prison.

Lammy (who is also the Justice Secretary) looked like a buffoon. Cartlidge looked Prime Ministerial. Maybe the world's oldest surviving political party (Conservatives) aren't over with after all.

As it happened, the Ethiopian rapist who was accidentally released was soon arrested and sent back to Ethiopia. There's no place for him in a rich and democratic society. He's back to the shitty country he was born in.

Wait, the woman “assaulted” by a mistakenly released convict is “anxiety” that this minister is apologizing for?

How does assault = anxiety? What kind of assault are we talking about here?

Sorry, how in Hell does a sexual assault = anxiety that this dude is cavalierly claiming he’s already apologized for?

British Deputy PM "Calamity Lammy" was destroyed by the Tories today as a second foreign prisoner is "accidentally" released

Meanwhile, the Tories' James Cartlidge looked Prime Ministerial. Maybe he has bigger roles ahead of him...

These two politicians are pussyfooting around an apology, regarding some animal that was mistakenly released from prison, and then sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl. It almost feels like somebody should be going through the wood chipper along with this guy that was mistakenly released from prison, and I don’t mean the victim.

This just gets weirder. British police have arrested an asylum-seeker who was mistakenly released from prison on Friday while serving a 12-month sentence for sexual assault following a “fast-moving and complex” manhunt.

Then he’s accidentally released to then go on and sexually assault someone else? In this case a child? Really? Am I misunderstanding this? Was this guy already in a British prison for a different sexual assault? Why was Hadush Kebatu incarcerated in Britain in the first place in order to be mistakenly released?
Then these two Ass-Hats are pussyfooting around an apology in parliament? Wow…

A lorry driver, who was delivering equipment to Chelmsford jail on Friday, told Sky News correspondent Tom Parmenter he saw the "confused" offender outside the facility being directed by prison staff to the city's railway station following his release.

He adds the prisoner must have been outside the prison for roughly "an hour and a half", before he finally left, adding: "They [the officers] were basically sending him away, saying, 'Go, you've been released, you go'."

Kebatu was found guilty of five offences after a three-day trial at Chelmsford and Colchester magistrates' courts in September.

His case led to protesters and counter-protesters taking to the streets in Epping, Essex, and eventually outside hotels housing asylum seekers across the country.

The incidents occurred in July, eight days after he arrived in the UK by small boat.
I guess I did misunderstand this. It’s not that he was incarcerated for sexual assault, then mistakenly released and committed another sexual assault…. It’s that he committed several sexual assaults before being incarcerated the first time. I guess in a glass half full sort of way that’s sort of better???

This makes me wonder what his asylum claim was that he couldn’t be sent back to Ethiopia, which it sounds like he was anyway.

A migrant sex offender mistakenly released from prison was given a £500 payment after threatening to disrupt his deportation from the UK to Ethiopia. The payment was made by the removal team as an alternative to a slower and more expensive process, Sir Keir Starmer's spokesman said. I guess we know how he had bus train fare when he was mistakenly released from prison.

The Ethiopian was put on a flight on Tuesday night and landed the following morning, the Home Office said. Kebatu was "forcibly deported" and accompanied by five escorts on the flight.

Kebatu arrived in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa early on Wednesday and was briefly held by officers at the airport before being released, Ethiopian police told the BBC.

There was "no legal basis for his continued detention", Ethiopian Federal Police communications head Jaylan Abde said.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said the payment was an "outrageous waste of taxpayers' money. Hadush Kebatu should have been deported immediately, not released and sent home with pocket money," she said.
