Britain - Ukraine's closest ally - shows off military might to Russian fleet

This comes after Britain warned Russia that she will seize any Russian shadow fleet tankers in British waters

Crack Special Forces commandos put on a spectacular show of force by rappelling out of a helicopter into a speedboat in the Channel.

Dramatic footage of the Special Boat Service training was captured near Poole, Dorset, days after the government warned it would seize Russian shadow fleet tankers.

The elite SBS commandos have led previous hostile boardings, including the Nave Andromeda in 2020 when stowaway migrants hijacked the vessel off the coast of the Isle of Wight.

Britain's Ministry of Defence does not comment on special forces - for obvious reasons - but it's rumoured the men are SBS.

Britain and Russia are growing more belligerent towards each other after Russia invaded Britain's ally Ukraine in 2022, sparking fears of a much larger conflict.

Russia shouldn't f*ck with Britain

Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales bristling with F-35s. Russia has nothing to match this power and advanced technology

Why Britain may once again be considered to be Europe's most important and capable military power...

Based on assessments from UK military and intelligence officials, Russia is actively engaging in "hybrid warfare" against Britain and its European allies, aiming to subvert security through non-traditional means rather than a direct, conventional military invasion. While a direct, full-scale military attack is considered a remote possibility, experts warn that the threat level is rising and the risk of escalation is serious.
  • Hybrid Warfare: Russia is accused of "bullying" the UK through actions that fall just below the threshold of open, all-out war. This includes surveillance, disruption of navigational systems, and potential sabotage.
  • Subsea Infrastructure Threats: Russian vessels, such as the Yantar, have been observed acting suspiciously near critical underwater data and energy cables that connect the UK to the rest of the world.
  • Cyber-Attacks & Intelligence: The UK is subject to regular, high-volume cyber-attacks from Russian-linked actors. MI6 has described the "front line" of this conflict as being everywhere.
  • Naval & Air Provocations: Russian warships and submarines frequently transit near British waters, requiring the Royal Navy to shadow them. Russian aircraft have also been intercepted by the RAF near UK airspace, with reports of "unsafe" behavior, such as shining lasers at pilots.
  • "Shadow Fleet" Activity: Russia uses a "shadow fleet" of oil tankers to bypass sanctions, with many of these ships passing through the English Channel and the Baltic Sea, increasing the risk of accidents or intentional disruption.
  • Escalating Rhetoric: Following the UK's support for Ukraine, including allowing the use of long-range missiles, Russia has threatened to respond "resolutely" against countries permitting such actions.

In response to these threats, UK defense officials have called for a "whole-of-society" approach to bolster national resilience and prepare for potential, broader conflicts. While the Royal Navy and Allied forces frequently manage Russian activity in the North Sea and Atlantic, the threat remains a major focus of British national security policy.
