..and lets get this most recent tidbit of news out of the way for more important happenings.

Two Canadian soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb explosion Sunday in southern Afghanistan, the military said.

"He said the military's engineers "put in a great deal of effort in Afghanistan where they're denying the ability of the insurgents to kill innocent victims on a large scale or simply reconstructing a bridge, roads, schools with their Afghan partners.""

They should have been focusing on US actions if their intent was preventing innocent victims being killed on a large scale, don`t ya think?

God bless them both, for their lives were sacrificed, so you both can have the freedom to politicize their deaths.

Je Me Souviens.

Thats so convenient.
I guess it would be for your sake.

Do you ever consider that someone on this forum may know one of these gentlemen, and that your exercising your right to free speech, in the way you do, may have a painful affect upon them?

The death of heroes on the battle field is always sad.

But why do they have to leave this world listening to bag-pipes, surely the most irritating sound in the world, next to a mosquito buzzing one's head.

A trumpet with TAPS should be enough and far more dignified.

War is part of the political game.

The sacrifice of the lives of soldiers is the true tragedy.

All for God and country

The last song a hero hears...

It goes back over 150 years.

When the mass migration of Scottish and Irish immigrants, began to fill jobs like Firefighters and Police Officers, they brought with them the Bag Pipes. If one should fall in the line of duty, Amazing Grace was played at their funeral. As an attest to the rise to glory of a wretch, who would so give his life for another. And as it with all Warriors, there is no greater Honour, then to die in Battle. Je Me Souviens.

It has become the standard farewell to those that fall in the line of duty, and rightly so.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

I have to call bullsh!t.

For in the moment of great adversity, the flag, the policy, the declaration that set in motion the call to arms, means nothing.

For in the end, it is the man that stands to the left, and to the right of me, that I will stand, fight and die for.

For there is no greater honour.

Do I give a sh%t?

Bah...once Harper mumbles a few words of solace and their corpses paraded down the `highway of heros` later this week, it`s back to business as usual.

That's nice of you.

This is true, and thanks in no small part to their monumental sacrifice.

I hope you enjoy what my brothers gave you.

CDNBear, no doubt the words of Amazing Grace are truly beautiful and the message must be a comfort to both the living and the dead at a solemn funeral.

I mean NO DISRESPECT. Just as the opera is irritating to a rock and roll fan, just as C&W is irritating to a classical music fan, just as rap is incomprehensible to most white people, just as the sound of a Paganini masterpiece played on Stradivarius hurts the ears of disco fan, sorry, but the sound of bag-pipes hurt my ears.

Give me the beautiful words of Amazing Grace sung by a devoted choir. It will not need any bag-pipe embellishment.

I forgive your ignorance, have no worries, so long as men, such as myself, still breath, you can remain as ignorant and loathing as you wish.

Thanks bro!
That's "brah' or 'bru'. "Bro" is an Afrocentric term. The other, an abbrevated term for 'brother'.

Of which you haven't earned the right to refer to me as.

CP24 (a little gossip channel here in Toronto) just poked its nose in with a bite on the most recent deaths and in the same breath reported an incident in Kabul somewhere about a family of 3 killed by rocket fire by the Taliban.

There...see? The soldiers deaths were worth it after all.

Fu%king propaganda.

When two groups of countries decide to go to war to settle their differences that’s when the propaganda machine goes into full force for those countries that don’t have mandatory conscription.

Speeches, movies are made to get the soldiers to fight the wars and it will go as far as psychological intimidation and when mothers and fathers and sons and daughters and aunts and uncles and friends lives are lost the other people will replace for revenge and believing that they will save the country will take up the cause.

On the battlefield a different mindset is formed and slogans are repeated by the soldiers to keep them motivated to fight and not run away.

Brave lives are lost until the politicians either surrender of just end the war.

The soldiers come back home as heroes scarred physically and emotionally for life.

If you look at the all the wars since World War Two you will see that politicians started it and ended it with no real gains and just precious lives lost or maimed.

Agreed. But in the modern age of today, it is not as profound, nor as successful as in past conflicts.

Speeches, movies are made to get the soldiers to fight the wars and it will go as far as psychological intimidation and when mothers and fathers and sons and daughters and aunts and uncles and friends lives are lost the other people will replace for revenge and believing that they will save the country will take up the cause.
That's an opinion, not a fact.

On the battlefield a different mindset is formed and slogans are repeated by the soldiers to keep them motivated to fight and not run away.
If you had any knowledge of what it's like to be on a battlefield, during, post conflict or otherwise. You would know that statement to be of the up most in bullsh!t.

Brave lives are lost until the politicians either surrender of just end the war.
