Greetings all! I play in a box lacrosse team outside of Washington, DC. One of the teams in our league just launched their website. They are called "Team America." Rather than being a US patriotic team, their theme seems to be more of a satirical "anti-Canadian" theme. I'd love to hear some of your thoughts. Funny or lame? Here's their website: http://www.teamamericalax.us

Thoughts?

Canadian Tom Marechek in the college lacrosse Hall of Fame:

http://www.collegelax.us/news/2008/05/25/2008-lacrosse-hall-of-fame-class-announced/

Tom Marechek (Syracuse University, 1992)

Marechek is one of the most decorated players in the history of the sport. He was a four-time All-American at Syracuse, earning first team honors in 1990, 1991 and 1992 while helping the Orange to two national championships. A six-time USCLA All-Star, he enjoyed a 12-year career with the Philadelphia Wings in the National Lacrosse League. He was an eight-time All-Pro, won four championships, retired as the league’s third all-time leading scorer with 773 points and was the first Wings player to have his number retired. Marechek played seven seasons in Major League Lacrosse for the Bayhawks, earning All-Star honors four times and won two championships. He was a four-time member of the Canadian national team, and was named to the ILF All-World team in 1998. Since 1997 he has served as the head coach at Glenelg (Md.) Country School, leading the team to two league titles. He is being inducted as a truly great player.

One of the greatest lax players ever. And said to be one heckuva guy!

Lacrosse was a bigtime sport in Canada, being Canada's National Sport at one time. When I was a kid it was almost automatic to join a box lacrosse league as early as 4 or 5. It doesn't surprise me that some made a successful crossover to field lacrosse. There was some incredible talent. The Gait brothers a prime example.

The greatest lacrosse player who ever lived is a guy named Jack Bionda. I had the privilege of watching him in the late 60's and 70's when he was an oldtimer. He was a magician with a stick and ball. I've never seen anything like it since, nothing even remotely close. It's impossible to describe the tricks Bionda had up his sleeve.

But why isn't lax # 1 as it used to be? In truth, it appears as if you Canadians talk more about MLB and NFL than you do about CFL.

Why so??
Money, marketing ...

I like the CFL more than I do the NHL.
