The charred remains of a badly burned small dog has the Ontario SPCA appealing for witnesses.
“It was bad enough that the investigators can’t determine at this point if it was a male or female, or the specific breed,” OSPCA Inspector Brandon James tells CityNews.
The only identifying feature the OSPCA is able to confirm is that the animal was a small size breed and had blond-coloured fur.
The grisly discovery was made by groundskeepers near Progress Avenue and Corporate Drive this past Tuesday.
The dog was found burned, in an off-white coloured cloth with a gold leaf design. A cause of death has yet to be determined, and officials don’t know if the small pet was burned alive before it was left abandoned on the property.
“If the animal was subjected to any type of abuse or torture, or set fire to while it was still alive, that would be considered animal cruelty,” James explained.
The OSPCA believes the dog was burned on site sometime between Halloween and November 7th.
Anyone who may have seen smoke in the air, know if anyone is missing a pet dog, or witnessed any unusual activity during that time period is asked to contact investigators at 310-SPCA (7722).
