I was trying to get information on my account the other day because I deal with a truly Canadian company.

A Canadian company that has given up on Canadians and outsourced their customer service to workers of India.

I am shocked that Canadians are allowing this.

I have read countless articles on many companies outsourcing to other countries but for Bell Canada a Canadian institution?

I read an American human resources magazine ten years ago that eventually America will consist of service sector jobs while all other jobs will be outsourced to other countries.

I read this and I had a good laugh I thought to myself what government in their right mind would allow this and what average person allow this because they would be cutting their own throats metaphorically speaking of course.

Here we are and it happened and the way it happened is that consumers got tricked into buying lower priced goods made in other countries.

Products that were dumped here and everybody bought it and everybody is still buying it.

Foreign companies are buying up all our major companies.

We won’t notice too much of a difference until the next recession or depression then every foreign company will close and locate back to their own countries.

A good example is the Free Trade Agreement where a large percentage of American companies closed up to move back home because the duties disappeared.

Like global warming if we do not do anything now then it will be too late.

This is the same with the global economy we have to protect our own if we don’t we will disappear as a country of the face of the earth.

What you got was a call centre...and ya, lots of callcentre work is being done out of India. A great amount of American call centre work is being done out of Canada. I used to work for Convergys (UGH!)...well, for 6 weeks, and the branch I was in serviced Comcast in the US, and has had contracts with Yahoo, AT and T, and HP. My mother worked for another horrid call centre that serviced a cellphone company in the US.

Trust me...they aren't great jobs. Companies in canada are scraping to get people to work at these call centres. They are horrid places.

About 10 years ago, they outsourced directory information to the US. It was odd, talking to someone with a southern accent, trying to get directory information for Penobsquis or Musquodoboit. Didn't last for more than about 6 months, though.

Oh man, the one day I worked on the phones at Convergys...the hell hole...several people seemed very offended that they got a guy with a canadian accent on the phone.

They've been doing this in the uk for quite a while and now some companies are actively promoting the fact that they do not use Indian call centres as a way to get more business.

Accent + the inability to move away from set scripts.
I dunno, man...I don't hear many domestic call centre reps deviating from the script much...:)

Mind you, it's funny, when I worked at Convergys here in Edmonton, it was mostly folks from India or Pakistan or Afghanistan or various other countries working there. So, really, you could be talking to someone with an Indian accent and they COULD be at a call centre in Canada.

Oh...ya...but, why are companies advertising that they do not use Indian call centers specifically, with idea that it will improve business?
Why are they advertising that they do not? I would imagine they are appealing to the undercurrent of racism that is so prevalent amongst Canadian people.
