The second scroll down pic of Frank Scherschel is especially poignant; taken a few seconds before, he, while mugging for the camera, stepped off the ship into the ocean.
Thereafter known as "Glub" Scherschel, he went on to fame and fortune, photographing "our boys" charging up the hill, down the hill, across the plain, and back again.
