Stefanovic was speaking specifically about an article published yesterday on the website which pictured him checking into a caravan park in Yamba, NSW, with a younger female colleague.

The headline, which has since been changed, made reference to the fact Stefanovic's girlfriend was not present.

"Fact: This was work. We were filming a story about our struggling prawn farmers," he said.

"The producer pictured on the website is a committed, talented, hard-working and totally professional young woman and not deserving of this cheap, lazy, sexist online slur.

"A young woman who spent the past hours in tears because of the hurtful and false way she's been portrayed by this website."

But Stefanovic took issue not only with the content of the article, which he said also inferred he was "a drunk", but with the Daily Mail itself.

"It's a news website, one which seeks to profit from criticising and publicly humiliating people, women especially," he said.
