1) 10-15 percent

2) 15-20 percent

3) over 20 percent

Which category do you fall in?

At the Bar I'll tip a loonie per beer. For a meal elsewhere I generally tip 20% or over, but I don't dine out very often.

You?

I refuse to dine out with my wife's parents anymore.

They complain about the food...treat the wait staff like dirt...and always leave a lousy tip. It's embarrassing to be with them. On many occasions I have returned to the establishment a few minutes later after we have all left, to leave more money for the waiter or waitress. They're clueless. They actively look for reasons to stiff these people.

My parents have both passed away but they sure as shit were horrible restaurant customers. My mom especially. She was born in 1919 on the prairies and grew up in the great depression. She expected everything to be homecooked by an old women wearing a kerchief. If she left a tip it might be less than $2 and after she asked them to break a 5.

I read that on a first date, you should pay particular attention as to how your female companion treats the waiter...because that's exactly how she'll be treating you in a few months.

Anybody in the food industry will tell you that smokers are the best tippers. They're just more casual with their cash. It's the family of four that starts out their order with four ice waters that you need to fear. You just know you're getting a lousy tip at the end of the meal.

I'm a really good tipper, if the occasion arises. ;)
