Back on topic... the Dutch are very tolerant people and I think Canadians and Dutch have a special bond in which we can see eye-to-eye on many issues, if not all.

They aren't nazis! God!

Well, some Dutchmen are in doubt whether we Dutchies are the tolerant people we once allegedly were, with the rise of Pim Fortuyn almost three years ago and the things that happened after Van Gogh's murder, but I am proud of my country when it comes to more liberal stances concerning something like gay marriage, and like you say Andem, I think Canada and the Netherlands have a special bond in that.

Rick, I see where your concerns come in. The Netherlands has to overcome outside influences, piticularly those of the United States.

They are still very liberal and tolerant people, but there are sections of society which stand out now and intolerant.

Just to add on: The USA's majority seem intolerant while Canada and NL are the opposite.

I was also annoyed by something like this: 'The Dutch have decriminalized most drugs and people smoke dope openly in venues' Smoke dope openly in venues?

I wouldn't worry about that too much, Rick. I openly smoked dope in a couple of venues in Plentywood, Montana a long while ago. Pretty conservative place, but nobody there was worried about getting busted.
