Actually, it was probably more like they weren't smart enough to keep something that big hidden. The bigger the bit of corruption gets the harder it is to hide. Also, the longer it continues, the higher the chances it'll be noticed.

Kinda curious as to what people would say in favor of big gov't considering the conversation going on in the libertarianism=anarchy thread.

The ultra right wing loves it because that means more corporate welfare in the form of multiple billion dollar contracts for the military industrial complex.
