Anyone here interested in astronomy?

What encourages me is that decent pictures of objects like the Ring nebula, the Orion Nebula, The outer planets, used to be available only to the large, million dollar observatories. Digital cameras have changed all that. Pictures of those objects can now be taken with relatively modest telescopes and cameras. The observatory my son is putting together will knock the hell out of a ten thousand dollar bill but you don't have to spend that kind of money and you can get pretty good pictures with a homemade 4" refractor and a web cam, like the first pictures on this topic.

Very true. My flatmate could take a photo of the shuttle that took off yesterday and passed Dublin from the house's backyard with his standard digital camera and we could see the shape of the shuttle on the photo, tiny but the shape could be seen. Given the distance, the lighting etc., the photo wasn't that bad actually.

Anybody here who is into astronomy heard that cause the change in the way the Earth is tilted by 2012, it's expected there are going to be major catastrophes?
Could you explain about this?

I read a lot about 2012 because I'm interested in esoteric stuff... But that's the thing... most of what you'll hear about 2012 is esoteric, not scientific. So don't worry too much about 2012...

If you do a bit of research on google you'll find LOTS of stuff on 2012... You'll realize there are different beliefs associated to the year in question. Some people expect major disasters. For others it represents a spiritual turning point for humanity.

I'd have a lot to say about the subject but I wouldn't discuss it in this thread because it's not serious astronomy... it's pretty much some form of cosmic astrology...
