I know Kennedy loved them and smoked them and at that time they were contraband.

Siglo V series - they best I've ever smoked

BTW, counterfeiting Cubans is big business.

I was stunned to find real cubans selling in a local depanneur in Chicoutimi :). Its hard to understand why americans can't get them. They are soooooooo good.

I still doubt whether you can claim that people (in this case, Republicans) who react in this way, are a good representation of the 280 million people living in the USA today ... further more, the patriotic "duty" for some as you describe - the sort of patriotism I dislike by the way Wink - can also be found in other countries, like for example Russia (you won't find many Russians openly criticising Putin's war in Chechnya and not called unpatriotic ...).

They are a representation of those running the country and about half of voters support those running the country. It is also a mind-set that has deep roots in the US. If you doubt that, just listen to some country music from the sixties.

Are they a good representation of the American right? Probably a fair one. They are very vocal, have access to the mainstream media, political power, and enough money to be extremely influential.

Your point about Russia is taken, but our PM was just there, in part to tell Putin to start restoring democracy instead of taking away people's rights. Most G-8 leaders have said something similar about Russia in recent weeks. Nobody has said similar things to Mr. Bush about his removing the rights of Americans and acting unilaterally around the world.

RE: Americans can no long

I think it is more a fear that if you say something like that to the Bush administration, no matter how diplomatically, you risk serious repercussions for your country.

That is part of the same mindset that gave us freedom fries and had right-wing American pundits uttering things like "Candian Taliban" and "Canuckistan." It is the same mindset that seeks to control US citizen's action when they are travelling abroad. It is the mindset of those currenty in charge of the United States.
