The Times, true to fashion, is using a cherry picked highly inflammatory and nicely out of context quote, to paint the actions of our Troops in a bad light. So, the New York Times is publishing lies and garbage? The u.s. general quoted is also lieing?
At least a hundred and forty one Canadians have been killed and many more wounded in Afghanistan, mainly by roadside/suicide bombs and ambush by the Taliban. If an Afghani civillian gets too close to Canadian or American troops without making his identity and his intentions clear and he gets shot, it is unfortunate but that is the cost of this war. I don't believe the Taliban could travel around the country as freely as they do without a lot of help from Afghanis.
What sort of uniform do these Taliblab wear to distinguish themselves from the civilian population?

Not at all, if one was so inclined to use a little thought, instead of what you pass off as it. One would seek the full quote and understand the context in which it was said.Having trouble accepting the commander`s own words/admission of guilt, bois?
Yes I know, funny how stupid is contagious in your crowd. The good General`s admission of guilt seem to be everywhere on the net, not just the page I found them.

You read into it whatever you want. I know ... you don't need my permission to do that. If it is read it in another context - and sort out the pacifist angle - it reads: "Shyte happens".
The truth is probably somewhere in the middle ... but I doubt if you'd recognize it.

from the OP link
“We have shot an amazing number of people, but to my knowledge, none has ever proven to be a threat,” said Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, who became the senior American and NATO commander in Afghanistan last year. His comments came during a recent videoconference to answer questions from troops in the field about civilian casualties.
....and I quote "We have shot an amazing number of people, but to my knowledge, none has ever proven to be a threat."
Lumps in you`re porridge this morning, bois?

How old are you? My sons don't eve talk like that.bois?
The Americans have had 5000 plus casualties in Afghanistan from Taliban suicide/roadside bomb attacks. Since the Taliban try to blend in with the general population, civillians are going to get killed along with them. It was the ones who didn't get shot that set off the bombs.
