So this is still going on eh?

Ryan Andresen had recently completed the requirements to earning his Eagle Scout award, including his final project of building a "tolerance wall" for victims of bullying like himself, but his Scoutmaster would not sign off on honoring him with the Boy Scouts’ highest ranking because he is gay, his mother said.

And late Thursday, the Boy Scouts of America said in a statement that because of Andresen's sexual orientation and that he did not agree to Scouting’s principle of "Duty to God," “he is no longer eligible for membership in Scouting.”

I'm sure the homosexual community will get him his award even if he doesn't want to fulfill all the requiremetns.

It's a private organization. If you disagree with their principles (which I do -- this is stupid) then just don't join or give them any financial support.

I do believe that this type of policies should disqualify them for any government aid of any sort.

You're right, why the Boy Scouts care about this kid's sexual orientation is a wonder.

They should stick to worrying about their own pedophiles, and not be so hateful towards kids.

Fukin interfering arzwipes.

I wonder if the general consensus is that the parents of the younger children have the right to decide
if a gay scout master is appropriate. I would say they do.

Is it acceptable to have a scout master who drinks alcohol? Smokes? Is overweight? Beats his wife? Engages in extramarital sex? Engages in consensual group sex? Looks at porn on his computer?

Perhaps each scoutmaster should have a questionare and results posted.

It's funny that there have been a fair number of kiddie-diddlers as scoutmasters over the years and nobody bats an eye. But should one prefer a person (adult) of the same sex all heck breaks loose.

No, on all counts. The scout master should be a positive role model. There are a lot of parents out there who, given the choice, would
very strongly reject a gay scout master.

That makes me wonder what people expect their Scout Masters to be teaching their sons.

You feel that Scout Masters should only be non-drinkers, non-smokers, monogamous people.

What politics are they allowed to have? Is it permissable for a Scout Master to live in a rented home, or is home ownership also an important role to model? Would owning a foreign car be acceptable? What about hunting, is it acceptable to be a hunter? Is it required to be a hunter?

The parents should probably just mind their own business about the sexual orientation of the Scoutmaster. If he and his partner were engaging in sex in front of the kids, I imagine the parents would hear about it in due course. I kind of regret my long held opinion that Pierre Trudeau was a total piece of crap. He said one thing I agree with "What happens between consenting adults in the bedrooms of the nation is nobody's business".

Given the choice, I would prefer a scout master to be a non-smoker and non-drinker though I smoked for years myself and had at least my share of booze. Home ownership suggests permanent residence but it would be hard to enforce.

The only time I would say smoking or drinking is anyone else's business is when it causes obnoxious behaviour. Smoking crack excepted!

The kid would be better off not winning an award from such an organization. Being denied is an award in itself. Im glad I was able to convince my parents to pull me out of similar organizations very early on.

I smoked for years until I started worrying that I might be damaging my children with my smoke and even more worried that I would cause
them to start smoking. I couldn't live with the idea that the kids would smoke because of me and suffer all the risks that smoking entails.
I quit almost forty years ago.......Glad I did...

Yes and yes. Which means nothing!

It can be dangerous to generalize from an individual event. I was in both the Cubs and the Boy Scouts in my youth and I'd say I benefitted over the long haul.
