TORONTO (Reuters) - Thousands of problem gamblers in have launched a $3.5 billion class action lawsuit in Ontario, saying they were allowed into provincially run casinos despite signing up for a program that should have denied them entry.

According to the CBC's website, the suit was filed earlier this week in Toronto, claiming the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. did not fully enforce a "self exclusion" program that allows problem gamblers to ban themselves from casinos.

hmmm.

I don't know. If they set a program up that these people felt was a safety net, then I can see the reason for complaint. But... what were the complaints they made BEFORE the lawsuit? Buddy went back for YEARS according to the article. Did he at any point bring it to their attention that they should be enforcing this?

I heard one guy today on the radio equate it to having a vehicle with a breathalizer and it allowing him to drive drunk. But, imo, this is a different kettle of fish.

If these people were compulsive gamblers, and signed a statement allowing the casino to
ban them from the establishment, then, I wonder what kind of extremes they went to, to
get themselves back into the casino. It is an addiction right? So, they probably dressed
in a disguised manner and did 'other' things to change their identity, to fool the
casino people.

Just comparing it to 'my dad' when I was a kid. He, in a sober frame of mind, would
promise and say many things that would seem like, 'he had turned over a new leaf', but
in no time at all, he would be doing 'anything he could think of' to get booze, take my
mom's last two bucks, sell things out of the house, anything, so I think the same would
apply to the above people.
