RE: ABORIGINAL WATERS: A SLOW BOIL

The Liberals want to keep handing them money, the PC's want to give them there own land rights. The Chiefs want the money from the Liberals, the people want the Land rights from the PC,s. I want my Native wife back home instead of going to 100 useless meetings. I am a redneck whitey living on the Rez! Where the hell does it end.

Hey Insane, are you living in New York, commenting on our internal affairs?
You will give many here an opportunity to open a can of worms on your side of the border.
An elder taught me a long time ago, "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."
You've got a huge white glass house down there.

Alfie ... Come on.

Alfie, that post does nothing to further proper debate on this topic. Think of something substantial to say, or you're going to force someone to put an electric buzzer on your Return key until you learn.

In my opinion, the safety of citizens of Canada (including but not limited to First Nations people and their drinking water) should be a number one priority for each and every Government of Canada, including the current Conservative Ministry. Now is not the time to play the blame game, but rather for the new Ministry to take action and prove its worth.

I am curious, why does my harmless post offend you when the unsubstantiated blatherings of new york insane doesn't?

Seriously, the accountability provisions that Harper wants to implement will, if applied across the board, will address many issues that need attention.

We all know Canadians (especially liberal ones) never comment on the internal affairs of the USA....

Since I am a whitey living on a Reserve I will tell you the real problem. The problem is when there is an election he who has the biggest family wins, Educated or not. When you have uneducated people handling millions of dollars what happens. Its just that simple and believe me that is the real problem.

To be a Canadian is more than self-identification for aboriginals because they are registered as Indians with the federal government. No registry, no Indians. Indians could disappear tomorrow if the federal Dept of Indian Affairs was abolished.

Are we Cdns only because the gov't says so?

Who are these Aboriginal people and where are they from? We don't know their story.

So-called gov't to gov't relationships leave me cold. If there is only a corporate issue here, then it may time to do some downsizing somewhere.

The state of drinking water on Canada's reserves

CBC News Online | February 20, 2006

Canada is a developed nation; we generally assume the water we drink is safe and clean.

I also tend to assume that since reserves have elected band councils with the ability to spend a lot of money, at some point they would consider water a priority for themselves. But that doesn't seem to be the case.
