Hello All,

I lived in AB for 2 years until June of last year, then I moved to BC and changed all of my pertinant addresses including drivers licence and AB student loan contact info. Today I recieved in the mail an AB Surplus Check for $400, with the payee info being my corect BC address.... Can I safely call this check mine or will they want it back a later date? As far as I remember I filled as a BC resident for taxes last year as my fiance and son lived in BC and I included them on my taxes.

Any ideas?

Date of Legislation

That would depend, perhaps, on the date on which the legislation or motion regarding the expending of those cheques was passed in the Legislature of the Province of Alberta; perhaps the cheques were intended for those who were residents of the Province at the time of their decision to issue them?

I don't see any problem with keeping the cheque, in particular if the Ministry of Finance of Alberta issued the cheque to the correct address. I would doubt that there is any way they could have overlooked such an address, if it were indeed an accident in doing so.

To be safe, though, perhaps you could inquire the Ministry for confirmation?
