Living in another country doesn't necessarily mean you don't pay Canadian taxes. I had to pay Canadian taxes the first year I lived down here because I was still considered a resident. I even got a bill for my BC medical coverage even though I hadn't lived in BC since 2002.

I don't have a problem with our government helping our citizens. That's what good governments do. I think it's embarassing to read about how little our government helps people like William Sampson or Maher Arar.

This is a humanitary question, there should be no money and spending questions here. Just think about it, put yourself into their shoes and look around you, Israel has bombed the roads in Southern Lebanon and the airport in Beirut and they even refuse boats from leaving the country. That's call being screwed and I would be really happy if my government came and helped me. Some of those people were simply visiting relatives when all of this started. As much as Harper's response was slow and his position on the war compromising Canada's foreign image, I give him credit on doing the right thing there.

I must admit that I have no clue how to answer that question...

I don't even think he did it that slow. Given that Canada was across the Atlantic Ocean, Israel pretty much destroyed the Lebanese infrastructure, and the fact that there was virtually no build up proior to the attack, I think Canada did pretty damned good in getting the Lebanese out of there as fast as we did.

105 million, yah it is pretty large.

You could probably establish a town on cyprus for that ammount of money.
