Canada ahead 4 - 1 at end of 1rst P. Really happy to see Germany get that goal on the 5-minute penalty to Schneider for a dirty hit at the blue line. Royally pisses me off to see hits like that in the Worlds - no need for it.

Germany is down 9 players - not ten but still, I feel for the team and give them credit for playing on.

Now that is more like it- just the type of game we need this early in the tournie. The Czechs played a great game and though we won 3 -1 it was not a particularly well-played game by our kids. Lots of sloppy passes and lack of cohesion.

So my neighbor drops by today and we get to talking about the tourney which is when he informs me that that the Czechs are not the Slovakians and the teams are in different divisions. Good grief. I think I have been cooped up too long and my brain is going to mush. Sorry for all the reporting errors. I do know that the Czechs - not the Slovaks - beat the Russians today!!! Yeah!

It took a PP plus 2 full periods and into the 3rd for the Fins to get on the board and drop Canada's lead to 2. The winner of this game will top Pool A - the teams are currently tied for 1rst.

Canada not quite so sharp in this period but were simply outstanding in the 1rst and 2nd with a total of 23 SOGs. Finland never got near the net until the PP which was the result of the first penalty by Canada in the game. Now that's great discipline.

GO CANADA...............GOOOOOOOOOOOO!

With just over a minute left in the final period, our Captain Dylan Cozens - who scored the first goal of the game - sealed the deal with an well-fought for empty-netter to give Canada a 4 - 1 lead and .........................................THE WIN! Congrats Canada. Really well done, lads. Up next the Czechs............and yes, this time it is the Czechs they will be playing.

Canada - 1rst place in Division A!!!

I was remiss in not mentioning the outstanding coaching by our Canadian staff. Well done, all. This is perhaps the most disciplined Junior team I've watched in awhile and I am truly happy to see a drop in the number of penalties. Also, well done.

Russia wins the first quarterfinal 2 - 1. Congratulations to the Russian players. I also congratulate the Germans who are the youngest team in the tourney and having faced adversity early on, never gave up and gave it their best. See you next year Germany.

Up next Finland vs Sweden in the 2nd of four quarterfinals today.

After sleeping their way through the first P, Finland started to come alive in the second and went full throttle through it and the third. Sweden had a 2 point lead until midway through the 2nd when the Fins tied them. The winning goal came with 23.3 seconds left on the clock.

Finland 3 - Sweden 2 Finland advances and the Swedes are home-bound.

Up next Can vs Czechs

So, so 1rst P for our kids. They are on the board with 2 goals but they also allowed the Czechs 12 SOGs. Ray Ferraro put it this way ' when they are on the puck they are great but when they're off they end up trailing the Czechs. They need to tighten up their defense. Czechs are giving them a great game so far.

Devon Levi has ROCKED in the net.

End of the 2nd P. Canadians still ahead by 2. Czechs still getting their chances but Levi denies them everytime. Defense still needs some work but all in all, our kids are playing a solid game.

The Czechs pulled their goalie with just over 5 minutes left in the 3rd P and though they peppered Levi with numerous shots it was Canada's McMichael who got the go ahead empty-net goal for a 3 - 0.

3 zip the final. The Czechs played a helluva game and had chance after chance at the goal. Were it not for Devon Levi in the net, the score might have been very different. Our defense barely resembled the one that played the Fins but expect that will be taken care before the semi-final. Congrats to the Czechs for a great tournament.

GO CANADA GO!

I'm off to never never land just at the US takes a 2 nothing lead with 8:05 left in the 2nd P. The Slovaks especially their goalie have been really good at denying the US goals but this one came at the end of a PP. Will check the score in the morning.

The US prevailed with a 5 - 2 win over the Slovakian team - they will now play the Fins in one semi-final while Canada will play the Russians. The games will take place tomorrow January 4th.

Canada blanked the Russians 5 zip. They scored early and they scored late and in between they literally skated rings around the Russian players. They owned the ice tonight. The Russians had a few chances but Devon Levi shut the door every single time and looked so composed in the net.

Off to the Gold Medal game tomorrow. Up next tonight, US vs Finland. Go Finland!
