George Michael's tragic sister was a recluse: Melanie Panayiotou 'never recovered from the incredible pain of losing the singer and piled on weight' before dying of a 'broken heart' aged 55 on Christmas Day

Melanie Panayiotou, 55, whose body was found on Christmas Day exactly three years after her older brother George died, had become a near recluse in her final years and had piled on weight, sources said. When George began a well publicised battle with drugs and alcohol, she devoted herself to preventing him being consumed by his demons. Sources say she was 'heartbroken' and in 'desperate pain' when she failed and died of a 'broken heart'. One source close to the family said she rarely left the house after his death, only visiting the hairdressers and the post office. Following George's death at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, in 2016, Ms Panayiotou, who never married and had no children, shared the £98 million fortune left in his will with older sister Yioda. Her body was found at her £6.2 million home (bottom left) in Hampstead, North London, previously owned by her brother. She is pictured top left, and with the singer, centre. Tributes are pictured outside her home, top and bottom right.
