CBC News shows that fifteen people have been confirmed dead after a crash between a semi-trailer truck and a bus full of seniors heading to a casino in the southwestern Manitoba town of Carberry on Thursday, the commanding officer of the province's RCMP said.

DAUPHIN, MAN. — Manitoba RCMP say dash-cam footage seized from a transport truck that collided with a minibus full of seniors shows the bus pulled into the lane where the truck had the right-of-way.

Fifteen people from in and around Dauphin, Man., died and 10 are in hospital, with six of the survivors in critical condition.


Supt. Rob Lasson says police are not assigning blame at this time and continue to investigate.


He says officers are looking into whether the truck had mechanical problems and if it recorded its speed and coordinates.

Lasson says police have not yet spoken to the driver of the bus, who is still being treated in hospital, but they have spoken to the truck driver.


He says those who were on the bus range in age from 58 to 88, and 19 were women while six were men.

Family members of 16 seniors who died in a highway crash honoured their loved ones Thursday, silently placing large photos of them on easels as police publicly confirmed the names of the victims.

DAUPHIN, Man. - They were great-grandparents, a couple in their 80s, a former teacher - and they were “gone in an instant.”

RCMP Supt. Jeff Asmundson, in charge of Manitoba's west district, publicly identified the 16 seniors killed last week in a fiery bus crash on a Manitoba highway.

Giant photos of them were carried into a news conference Thursday by relatives and Mounties, then placed on easels as their names were confirmed as victims.

CARBERRY, Man. — RCMP say a 17th victim died Sunday from injuries sustained in a bus crash west of Winnipeg — a 79-year-old woman who had been in hospital since the collision just over a month ago.


Seniors from Dauphin, Man., were on a minibus taking a day trip to the Sand Hills Casino, 190 kilometres south, when the fiery crash occurred on June 15.


They were just minutes from the casino when, according to dashcam footage viewed by police, the bus drove into the path of a transport truck heading east on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Fifteen people on the bus died that day and another died in hospital the following week.

The 25 people on the bus, including the driver, were from Dauphin and the surrounding area.

They were remembered as beloved grandparents, mothers, fathers and siblings. Many were active in their tight-knit community more than 300 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.

Those who died ranged in age from 68 to 88, with 11 of them in their 80s. All but two were women.
