The HST kicked in yesterday and ........

We went out to Thursday night "Pub Night" expecting to have a tough time getting a seat. Instead, the pub was nearly empty. It was a wet and rainy day and from comments I saw on Face Book, I gathered those that went camping were having second thoughts and some that were planning on going...

    How about eggs?

I use lard when I make pastry but I have used the "never fail" recipe my Aunt gave to me over 40 years ago and I can handle it all I want. It is still nice and flaky. In fact, sometimes it's too "short" which means it's too flaky.

    jicama

I bought Jicama (Hicama for those that don't know how it's pronounced) only once. Our youngest granddaughter loved it and couldn't seem to get enough of it. No one else cared for it. I did read about it in a magazine long before I ever bought it. It was described there as tasting like a blend...

    Baked Beans

I'll have to try your recipe Juan. I've never had a lot of success with mine. My Mother-in-law made the best baked beans I've ever tasted. I asked for the recipe but she just gave me one of those "just do this" types of things and I never could quite get it.

SPLIT thread: Why to do anything about global warming

I see what the graph appears to be saying, however, while our winter probably would fit into it, what we have had so far for summer like weather is starting to feel like it will be the year without summer. I call it the year without winter (2009). I was at my GP's office today and it was really...

SPLIT thread: Why to do anything about global warming

While I no longer use Telus as my provider, I still use their homepage. I set the weather page to Nanaimo so if you want to look at it just go to that page and edit the page to Nanaimo - all you will see is that we are getting rain and more rain. Hmm - now I am thinking you want to see where I...

    Potato Salad

I've never used a recipe for potato salad! I just make it. Boiled peeled potatoes. (as many as you need for the number of people you're feeding). Boiled eggs. Green Onions. Grated carrot. Two stalks celery finely diced. Too many ingredients simply ruin the taste! Dressing: Miracle Whip...

SPLIT thread: Why to do anything about global warming

Re: What to do about global warming I knew exactly what I was referring to JLM. It was simply a tiny lighthearted comment stating that I see no evidence of "global warming" where I live. Like Hermite - this is one of those areas I have avoided. I also agree with her that we are into climate...

SPLIT thread: Why to do anything about global warming

I was also taken back at the decision to move this. My post was light hearted and was not leading into a major discussion about the weather. I think there was a pretty big exaggerated move here. The discussion was still on the outer fringes of the name of the post. I doubt it would have moved...

SPLIT thread: Why to do anything about global warming

Re: What to do about global warming This thread is about global warming. I want to know where the warmth is. It's only 13 degrees here - less than half what it should be and I'm damn near frozen. It' almost 20 in my house but I'm in need of a nice hot shower to rid myself of the chill in the...

That's too bad because even though sometimes it made a bit of a jumble, generally speaking, it was good. I liked it.

What to do about global warming

It's a new feature. You'll have to get used to it. It does save time and helps stop so much quoting.
