October 21 - The End is Near

Based on Scripture, many Christian faiths believe and teach about a future, end-times event when all true believers who are still alive before the end of the world will be taken from the earth by God into heaven. The term describing this event is "the Rapture." Although the term "rapture" is not...

    Making paintings with sand....

I chose this thread rather than start a new one because - more often than not - things I try to copy and paste just don't work. If this is a blank screen - it didn't work: The painting itself is great but as you run your cursor over the people it tells you who they are ...... BUT DOUBLE...

    iTunes Cards

Just a little word of caution. I bought an iTunes gift card. The directions clearly stated "scratch off label and enter code". The card was not for me but being ever so helpful - I could see that I could just peel the strip off rather than scratch it and I did. BIG MISTAKE. What I ended up...

October 21 - The End is Near

How many years do we have to listen to this crap? How many of these fools think they know it's our final day on earth. I've been hearing that the end is coming ever since I was a child and you know - they are right. It's just happening one body at a time, one minute (or second) or whatever at a...

    Food has become extremely expensive

We were warned that food prices would rise about 2 - 3 %. That was about 10 months ago. Not much seemed to change in any store. Then one day I went to do the usual shopping and was awe struck by the price changes. Food everywhere here (on Vancouver Island at least) is up far more than the 2 - 3%...

Ontario, Alberta crews latest to join fight against hundreds of B.C. wildfires

We have a lot of fires burning all over BC. It has just rained where I live (thankfully) but the smoke cover leaves the sky looking like more rain when it's actually very warm out and where the weather forecast says "smoke". My thanks to all those from other provinces coming to our aid. (and...

    Dill weed or fresh dill?

Watch out for this man Rufus. Dilly bars are a great sub as long as you eat them while you are cooking your pickles. Mixed in - yuk, can you see that ice-cream mixed with the vinegar! ;-)

    Dill weed or fresh dill?

Have you checked to see if your local supermarket has fresh dill in? I have never come across a recipe yet that suggests substituting dried dill weed. I don't think you will get near the flavour you are looking for.

Cancer conundrum: Poorer Canadians less likely to survive cancer

Why do you think this is happening? TORONTO - Cancer patients from poor neighbourhoods have a greater chance of dying prematurely than their wealthier counterparts, says a new study, describing a problem that persists despite universal health care in Canada. Much of the literature on the...

    Stainless steel

Maybe it's to do with height Juan. I dropped a glass on mine fully expecting a major explosion of glass but it survived! Being only 5 feet tall and holding the glass just above my waist may have made the tile more forgiving of the short drop. Who knows why it didn't break. I am not very...

    Stainless steel

6 Ingredients for a clean (green) home: 1. Baking soda: Acts as a scrub to remove hard water stains; polishes metal; deodorizes pretty much anything it touches (try stashing some in the fridge). 2. Borax: Mixed with three parts water, it makes a paste for cleaning carpet stains; mixed with ¼...

    Stainless steel

Try Weimans Karrie. I like white appliances just like you do but I do have some SS stuff around. One day I grabbed my cooktop cleaner and tried it on my SS teapot. In only seconds the pot looked like new. It works on my cooktop like no other cleaner. I've had my stove for 8 years and the top...

Consider yourself lucky that the magnets don't stick. I have often read through the "houses for sale" ads and I don't think any of us realize how ugly our refrigerators become when they are all cluttered up with notes, appts., pictures, memo's, and even just the magnets themselves can be just...

SCC Rejects appeal by BC Man regarding prostate exam

This should not have been rejected. There is no reason whatsoever that men have to pay for this exam. OTTAWA - The Supreme Court of Canada will not hear an appeal by a man who claimed it was unfair that he had to pay for a prostate screening test. Laurence Armstrong of Victoria, B.C., brought...

Good Mothering passes genetic benefits to later generations

This story starts off about rats but I was surprized to read the part I have underlined regarding human births. VANCOUVER - Rat mothers who touch and groom their offspring create happier, smarter rats — not just for one generation, but for successive generations, according to researcher...
