Perhaps making it on the anniversary date makes it more about Canada and less about ourselves. Imagine all that could get done if everyone gave a gift or did even one thing for the country.

For those not working, it's not really an issue. No doubt all the stores will be open.

Pretty much a non-event.
Appropriately a garbage day even. Our municipality carried on with garbage collection today as it does every Wednesday

Stat holidays have become just another way to fleece the people through overtime pay for the same non productive output.

One of the best things is how you can stretch your holidays and be even more non productive on an annual basis.

Interesting thing about stats. Government employees and some unions expect them. At the same time, they expect other union employees, like hospital staff, bus drivers, BCFerry staff, everyone in service industries to be at work to entertain them on their day off. WE spent the day replacing the roof and setting the much needed AC units back in place on a convenience store so they could remain open. The only person that got paid OT for that was the union crane operator.
