Here is my response from PMCI...I still don't know what to do. The "payment" i attempted to make he mentions is bizarre, since I still don't recall owing money to TD? Not to mention when he says about my credit report, he says " it does not list an account number, only that the account was closed at my request"? My credit remains in good standing....what to do???
I am writing you back in regards to the above mentioned account.
Further to your request made in a previous e-mail, that we only communicate
with you in writing, I am writing to inform you of the results of our review
of your account, a student line of credit, conducted in conjunction with TD
Canada Trust.
We have the following, as a recap of events that have transpired thus far.
You were contacted by an Account Representative of Portfolio Management
Canada Inc. in regards to a TD Canada Trust (TDCT) account. You admitted
that, formerly, you had dealings with TDCT; but, that your account was
previously paid in full. Regrettably, you no longer have proof of this
assertion; however, someone you spoke with in the Payment Account Recovery
Department indicated that, in fact, your account was paid in full but that
they could not supply you with any proof. After contacting our Account
Representative, you were told that an Affidavit, stating that you had
previously paid this account, signed by a lawyer or police officer,
submitted to our office would close this account. Unfortunately, that
information was incorrect and for that I apologize. Also, while there is a
TD Bank listed on your credit bureau, it does not list an account number on
your Trans Union Credit Report and the account simply shows as closed at
your request.
According to our contact at TDCT, on November 2, 2002 you attempted to make
a payment on this account. However, the bank has this listed as a returned
item which means that the payment was not applied to this account.
Consequently, based upon the information we've received from TDCT, this is a
valid account with a balance that remains outstanding. PMCI is now the
legal owner of this account. Also, your attempted November 2002 payment
means that this account will not be statute barred until November 2, 2008.
