I'm glad you think you have a finger on the pulse of Canadian election issues. The protection of our Arctic was, and still is a big issue with me. Obviously, for Harper, and you, it is not.

If it was such a big issue, would it not have been on the news during the last election? I only saw it a little bit ago when it was announced they had gone a different route. When polled, the first couple of answers are always: environment, healthcare. Never Icebreakers. I see that it is an issue with you. It never has been for me.

If it truely is such a big issue, Dion will no doubt make it front and centre in his platform in the next election.

I remember it being a bit of an issue too. Especially coming from a coastal background. It gets my goat that the USA just callously ignores the fact that we have people living in the north and sends ships through our waters. Yeah, international waters, because you know, the international community makes such a huge contribution into the lives of people living in Resolute and Pond Inlet.

I always liked Mike. Still do.

Gee...there's a suprise!

I'd say we can safely eliminate the possibility that Walter is an aboriginal...

I'd say we can safely eliminate the possibility that Walter has any sense of a necessity for integrity in government...

the list of course goes on and on....

Does anyone think Harper will get elected again? Does anyone else think that if Dion was just a bit more electable Harper would be gone now?

Dion will never become PM in my opinion, he hasn't given Canadians a reason to elect him other then being an alternative to Harper. I think the Liberals will need to have another leadership convention if they hope to run the country again.

Why is it an issue for you Juan?

Because you like the idea that Canada's business community has demonstrated repeatedly that America comes first...in the name of a dollar of course...?

It's a ridiculous undertaking to pretend that flag flying around and above the arctic circle will have any value to any Canadian.

Well Mikey, I've been concerned over our Arctic territory for a few years. We should have nuclear subs but we don't, and we are unlikely to get them any time soon. The Americans would see us having nuclear subs as a conflict of interest.....their interest. The large armed icebreakers were probably a good second choice.

The most important thing we can do is fly the flag and take care of the natives living in the north. The large, armed icebreakers would have helped with that. The U.S. might want all sorts of things in our Arctic but do they want to assume responsibility for the northern people. I know there is little chance that we can offer anything but token resistance to the American military, but we should be capable of doing at least that......right now we can't and Harper doesn't give a $hit.

Harper doesn't know his rectum from a hole in the ground....have no fear.

So you don't think that the fact that Canadians (Canada is an oil producing nation) pay more for gasoline than America...

Electricity demand from the United States offers a golden business opportunity to Canadian power generation plants...and consequently the American flow of dollars replaces any committment Canadian industry or government has to supply Canadians ...

Means as example that if America wanted to simply take what might be under that ice and snow that they're not prepared to wait until some smarmy Edmontonian can cut a deal with the Chinese or the Mexiacans or anyone else who could be left holding the bag....when cost overuns threaten the sitting government....and meanwhile America gets it all anyway....is worth sinking millions into toy boats?

Canadians pay more because we have a lot of roads and fewer people to pay for them. Our gas prices are higher because of taxes.

I'm not quite as pessimistic as you are. I just think we should arm ourselves better than we are.
We need to arm our military and Harper is not really doing that

The topic was that Harper has not convinced Canadians that he is our rightful Messiah. The PCs are losing ground.....Why is that?

Just a second here Juan

Check out how much other people in oil producing nations are paying for gasoline...

It's convenient to throw the "Oh we're such a big nation that it costs more" argument around but it doesn't hold up to common sense. You don't really expect me to just buy your notion that its this reason do you?

How far is it from Sarnia to Toronto? Do the shipping costs explain this enormous difference?C'mon now Juan....give your head a shake...

Canada has the United States setting the price for everything from gasoline to softwood lumber to books for crissake. When the U.S. has an outbreak of mad cow disease, and Canadian beef industry takes a hit do you really think that Canadians are paying the same for beef as an American?

Sorry Juan I just don't buy your argument. If you could demonstrate or provide a calculation of the transporting costs of a gallon of gasoline from any major refinery in Canada to the furthest point in Canada from that refinery translates as the gas pumps I'll entertain that idea.

It's simply not the case.

Canadian oil production is funnelled into refineries and gasoline stations to the south at less than Canadians are paying..... Doesn't America have to pay shipping costs....think about it Juan....

Back on topic....

Anyone looks good standing beside Jean Chretien or Paul Martin...history books will be kind no doubt to these rogues and leave out their participation in multi-million dollar scams....

Stephen Harper hadn't the opportunity to demonstrate his flavor of stupidity and could sit in the House of Commons and put on a show as good as any showman from those hallowed halls...

Now that he's in charge.....the governing body is in a much different position than the opposition rabble.

I'm sorry I don't have any respect for Stephen Harper. I don't have any respect for any Canadian politician ...Liberal or Conservative.....

Jack Layton is comedy relief and Dion is a fizzle.....

I won't forgive the government for the billion dollar gun control, but the Sponsership scandal was peanuts. Canada's annual budget is in the order of a trillion dollars...a couple hundred million is very tiny by comparison. We are talking about a fraction of one percent.
