Here in Canada women only earned the right to vote 1916 Manitoba 1940 Quebec

Imagine the right to vote

Here in the States, blacks were legally allowed to vote in 1865. However, it took the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 in order to insure that they could finally vote.

Imagine -- it took 99 years to actually allow them to vote!

From what I've read, women who choose to wear the veil, do so for the same reason why Canadian women choose to wear tops. Its all about their perception of modesty. Forcing these women to expose their arms, legs and hair would be about as liberating as forcing Canadian women to expose their breasts.

The veil doesn't look modest it looks scary. If they want to look modest wear the hajab instead.

Modesty is not something one person gets to dictate to another. Thats why mandatory wearing of the veil is wrong. Likewise, telling people not to wear it is equally wrong.

The veil makes them look like Ninja's or something. We don't let people going into a store with a ski mask on. Should we give people wearing the veil special treatment? Men must like it. It lets no one see the "woman under their possession". No one could tell how old the woman is either. Sounds like it would be a great tool for men that like to date under age woman. Their is nothing in the Koran that tells woman to where the burka and I think burkas look hideous.

I have a muslim friend who you would have to pry her head scarf out of her cold dead hand before she would take it off. For her it is an important symbol of her religion and her independence as a human being.

The point is who cares what who says and what...if the person wearing it feels as though they wish to wear it...then what is the problem?

Little bird I think I understand ,the veil serves more purposes than we know ,

I know this is not a great comparison but

I feel better wearing a knee skirt or a skort( which is shorts that look like a skirt) than a mini skirt --I feel confident that no one can see anything I wish not to show .
So by dressing conservative, I am not drawing as much attention or unwanted attention to myself thus i feel safer --and it does not cause undue male stress

Does this sound right --???

preventative measures

Maybe the irony is by woman covering themselves up it makes men that much more crazy about them. In fact it makes the men so crazy that some think that they have no self control. Otherwise why would we have Muslim Clarics calling woman raw meet and blaming the woman for being raped by not coving her self up.
