What a coincidence. Dr Virro is considered one of the best in Canada. The clinic has a reputation that is second to none. They do have a wait list of about 8 months for a consultation but you guys have plenty of time on your side.

I my self am not too concerned about having a child at the moment, I know my g/f is broken about it though. She has been told she will never have a child of her own due to damage to her uterus etc. She was pregenant up to about 6 weeks a short while ago. The Doc's told her she would probably hemorage if she stayed the course. They induced an abortion via some sort of muscle relaxent, I felt so bad for her... one of the worse feelings I have ever felt, with her complications, it was really stressful.
yeah, for her more then anything. it's easy for the guy to say "everything will work out etc", but knowing it's a lie really sucks.
Women can take that like a death in the family. Let her know there is always hope. At her age there probably isn't a need to rush in for advanced treatments. They can be incredibly expensive. Just knowing there is hope or a possible light at the end of the tunnel can be important too. Life is all about hopes and dreams. Having them taken away is not healthy. One should also never underestimate the satisfaction of family building through adoption.
Aw, what a terrible bummer, Durka. I'm so sorry. That's not the way it's supposed to be. But in a Christian Discussion thread I feel bound to point this out: it's not and can never be religious belief that'll save her life or ever give her a chance at having a baby, it's modern medical science. Reality trumps religion every time.
A friend of my son's is in exactly the same situation, has a girlfriend who's a wonderfully bright and attractive young woman who's also suffered several rounds of cervical cancer and been told the same things about childbearing by her doctors. The stories are so similar I'm tempted to think I might actually know you in real life, except that you live in Pickering and I'm in Regina. Give that lady a big hug, and if you really love her, stand by her. She needs that.

Well... I don't want to start a debate about the relationship between cynicism and religion. At least not in this thread. I've never thought about it that way, but my immediate reaction is that cynicism and religion aren't connected at all, either positively or negatively. Nor do I think that a view like "what happens, happens" has anything to do with cynicism, that seems to me just an honest and realistic understanding that there are some things you really can't do much about. Sh*t happens in every life, but some people's lives seem to have more than their share of it, some people never notice it at all, and there's no sense or justice to any of it.
I've read most of your posts and cynical is not a word I'd choose to describe you. A cynic would not say "hope for the best." All I really wanted to tell you is that I wish you and your girlfriend well.

Hah! Catholicism has no monopoly on that! Protestantism is pretty good at it too, especially those dour Scots Presbyterians like my father's mother, and Judaism is reputably masterful. "What! good thing I have a degree of seperation from ym relatives in Ireland
