How far is that from where you love? Not that it matters, running off anywhere would be a panic situation. But I was just wondering how far you were from Georgia to get an idea of how far the rebel went.

She didnt get out of Texas which is bad enough we lived in Midland the picked her up near Dallas 8 hours away. The cops in Georgia found other girls names and numbers on the guys comp. But you have to realise this child is Borderline Personality......talk about nightmare.

Is McAffee 2006 sufficient to detect keyloggers?

it should under most circumstances I imagine. The best defence against a key logger is a hardware based router with an SPI firewall (stateful packet inspection), it will analayze every data packet entering and leaving your pc, ensuring that you legitimately requested that data, not some rogue program.

You should know how to detect one too in case someone marks you with one... if a root kit gets installed on your pc from random hacker on the net, good bye identity.

Im pretty savy on the tech aspect. I have a friend in ......LOL she moved hubbies in the AF.....anyway shes a tech and she teaches me the ins and outs. Ive created my tower Im kinda proud of what I can do. For a blonde that is.

I'd have killed her, and when I was done, killed her again:) Seriously, the trauma must've been immense for you as the parent.

I have to play Nazi with my soon to be 15 year old. This one is like her dad, a rebel. She also suffers from a common malady called PK(preachers kid) so she has a ton of stuff to rebel against. Put it this way, imagine you go to a Catholic school and your dad is a Catholic priest.....think about it!
Yeah, I was a rebel, too. Still am,; can't stand overbearing gov'ts in spite of having worked for em. But, I never came across to them as being the Stalinish authoritarianistic ogre and I am pretty imposing in uniform (dark blue with insignia, idiotic hat, and whatnot), but every time I got home, I would open the door throw my hat on the table and squat down waiting for them and their hugs. (Justa for instance.) No goosestepping around, forceful voice, etc.

Yeah, I have enough experience with the D-Link VFL 700 and their DI 624 to recommend them. :) No problems with them at all. Course, I'm also running Spybot, Spyware Blaster, NOD 32, eTrust antiSpam, AdAware, and ZoneAlarm. :D Probably lotsa redundacies but I don't know much about pcs.

LOL uh huh but I HATE XP LOL and my copy of ME is bootlegged soooooo unless I win the lottery (and Id have to play to win) Im stuck.

You can make XP look exactly the same as ME if thats what you dislike about it. I would take a lok around at computer shops though, Microsoft just released Windows Vista, so I imagine you could pick up a copy of XP with a good size discount.

yeah, that can turn into a serious problem. Convincing banks, equifax etc that your identity was stolen and you really didn't puchase $20,000 in porn. :evil3:

I nearly had this happen. I don't know if it qualifies as identity theft because it didnt get very far. Basically my bank sent me a replacement card for one which was going out of date, it was a debit card btw. The card never arrived so i ordered another, happy in the "knowledge" that when u get a card it isnt active until u call them and activate it. NOT true. Anyway all i knew is i got my new card and started to use it (i also thought that once one card was in use, the old one(s) would be automatically cancelled. also not true somehow). A few days later i'm looking at my electronic statement and it says i've used my card for payments of GBP200 which i CANNOT afford. Bill paying time is coming soon and there's no spare money. I go into the bank and tell them i didnt make those payments, can you cancel them please. They said we're sorry but once the money has been earmarked to leave your account there's nothing we can do until it's been taken out. If when it's gone you still think it's fraudulent, contact our fraud department. So i asked, well who's getting the money, where's it going? they said we're sorry we can't tell you that. I said, so hang on you havent actually made the payments yet? it hasnt left my account? she said yes, so i said well stop the transaction then, because i never made these payments. Anyway it couldn't be done and they were very unhelpful about it. I ended up coming back the next day and reporting it as fraudulent, pointing out to them that there would be extra charges on my account as it was now overdrawn and that further payments were being made, and that i would require them to fix all these problems very quickly or i would have to stop eating.

In the end they gave me my money back and cancelled the other card, which showed up on my statements as having a different number to mine, which theoretically isnt possible, since the account was only allowed one card. At the end of the month i received a phone bill in my name which meant they had set up an account with my details and someone elses address, along with several other card numbers. The only way out for the bank was to cancel my account, transfer everything on my old account to the new one and start again. I never got the bank charges back but i was just glad to be able to eat again. I am currently saving in an effort to be free of the bank in question, it won't be long.

I was lucky because i noticed it very quickly. if it had gone on much longer I may have been in big trouble. the police never even phoned me back.

The bank you were dealing with sounds incompetent at best, I can't believe they wouldn't tell where your pending withdrawls were heading...

That's a great point Maple. It is why I keep my daughters comp wide open and unmonitoered except by me, in person, so I can discuss with what she does online. She is a sensible girl like you so I have little to worry about.

That is not so true, or at least not for many. I got my first internet connection in 1995. Dealt with a number of trojans, worms and viruses. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the times I've had to reload my OS. When I started you had to load DOS first then hope it would let you load windows.
So now parents are more and more aware of how a comp works. For the rest there's the software to spy on there kids.
I hope your Mom uses the first method.
