the problem with the old system was that it didnt make much sense. For instance you became master yoda after only a few posts, whereas it started to question your sanity at a few thousand. And Andem has the honour of being the one who controls the system. no need to get freaky cos he changes it. he's now allowed us the chance to suggest alternatives.

hey, while we're on the subject of membership status.... someone just brought up an old post, from a member named steveinBC, that's over a year old. SteveinBC has 9 posts to his id, and shows as new member because of it. I'm thinking he's not a new member. lol.

Is there a way to turn someone's status to 'inactive member' if they don't post for a certain amount of time, say a month? Once they come back, of course their post number can dictate their new status (so you don't lose your ranking by going away for the summer or something), but, it just seems like it would make sense.

just a thought.

That's because you keep on making one liner posts one after another.. I eventually merge your continuous posts.

any decisions on this yet andem?

any further suggestions people?

Well we have some varied opinions on ranking so far. We should probably let this thread continue for a while and then pool all of the suggestions.

Could rank people's post sums by Chess pieces (or Stratego pieces). Kings and queens with thousands, and pawns with few posts sorta thing. Or big sea critters and little sea critters. Or land critters.

I made a suggestion that works through sea-critters, from virus and bacteria up to kraken

I do like the sea critter idea:

0-50 posts: virus
50-100 posts: bacterium
100-250 posts: amoeba
250-500 posts: plankton
500-1000 posts: krill
750-1000 posts: fish
1500-2000 posts: shark
2000-3000 posts: orca
3000-4000 posts: beluga
4000-5000 posts: humpback
5000-10,000 posts: kraken

Let's see if we can come up with anything else and then we'll run a poll.
