This is just like Mulroney's "roll the dice" on Canada.
Of course they'll support it. They'd be fools not to. This is a foot in the door to separate.
Absolutely Gonzo.

This little piece of intllectual papier, will sound the death nells of this country at the worst, or stifle forever the diversity of Quebec at the least.

Its funny how all of this is causing so much stir in the other provinces and here in Quebec, its simply going on like all the other news...we don't give a crap. Its words people...thats all. We didn't press the goverment to say it.

And the Bloc suddenly changing direction... thats not new. They have 0 credibility for me.

Oh and Sassylassie, its the other way around, more like 82% french, 7.9% english and 10.1%. And to answer why we are so quiet...because WE DON'T CARE ABOUT ALL OF THIS!!!! We are more interersted in enviroment these days then stupid goverment waste of times like we saw this week...START GOVERNING ALREADY!

If you speak for your people, which i highly doubt, the Bloc Quebecious did not just spring up in Parliament.

The why is it you let your elected officials what all over english signage and the rights of the non french inhabitants of le belle provance? The distinct society title was just words too, look how that turned out.

Where did I say that I was speeking for my people???

As someone living in Quebec i'm probably in a good place to know how my surrounding is responding to this. The morning after, it wasen't even a front page big title, the police bust on the italian mafia in Montreal was.

Since when did politicians respected the general will of the common folk?

The Bloc was created by politicians fed up with the failed Meach Accord and formed a soverenist party. It was stong at first, but later declined at every election. The recent rise of the Bloc was all due to the disgusting way we where threated by the liberals with the whole sponsership scandal. I for one voted for the bloc as a protest vote. And many folks taught like me.

But i'm not stupid, I know they are worthless, can'T be elected, can't be juged on their governing skills. And many soverenists think that Ottawa is no place for a soverenist party. You would be surprised at the number of people that vote Bloc simply because they dont trust any of the other parties. I for one think they are your average oportunistic politicians

Just relax, by doing this stephen harper helped his party to get more voters from quebec, since he lost lot of support, from my point of view, he made a good choice.

The fact that you indorse this, only serves to bolster my worries that it was the wrong thing to do.
I know full well what his motivations were, he's a pandering putz, with the ethics of a true politician. Nil.

Well look at it differently, there is hardore separatist, there is also moderate separatist who are not 100% for separation, if they feel respect and some form of status of a nation, harper will be back in the poll(quebec) and separation will get way less popular, i would really think that this is in favor of the conservatives, and a good move, to keep canada all together. Check the poll in the near future, regarding quebec support for harper.

Undoubtedly his numbers will go up. It was a short sighted political move to pander votes and nothing more.

If you think Harper wants Quebec to feel all snuggly warm and happy, I got some property to sell you down south.

This will not end here, nor quickly, this will be used to further the seperatists agenda.

bear,

I agree with you on the motives of Harper (which were known long before the election).

However, I just ask one thing:

Why are you so empassioned by the separatist movement? Canada currently does not work. One group wants out of a bad marriage, after attempts to reconcile have failed. It is hard sometimes to let something go when one is habituated to it, but sometimes change is for the best. So I am interested in hearing your argument for the status quo.

And just exactly who *are* the Québécois anyway? Is it everybody who lives within the current borders of Quebec? I don't think so. I doubt the aboriginal people who inhabit most of the large northern territory would consider themselves Québécois. What about the large English-speaking minority, are they Québécois? I doubt they'd self-identify that way. How about the large numbers of recent immigrants from all over the world? How about all the people who were born in Quebec and now live elsewhere in Canada, are they part of this Québécois nation too?

I vote with Rex Murphy, who in yesterday's Globe&Mail wrote this: ""I would rather herd cats and juggle eels for a living than parse this 'historic' resolution. It is an uncooked stew of ambiguity, imprecision, unresolved meanings, conflicting senses, and unspecific intent. It has neither logical nor legal nor semantic rigour." Which is just Mr. Murphy's own inimitable way of calling BS on it.

I am speaking with all the support of my friends and relatives, when I say, abso-f**kin-lutely. I have not nor have any of my friends or relatives, heard one Native that feels this will in part or in someway, better their lives. Only the contrary.

Good shot Dex!
